Shabbat shalom dearly beloved: As I was reading the Torah portion of last week about Moses escaping from Pharaoh and hiding in the desert for 40 years, it struck me that all the major deliverers of Israel had to escape their enemies and hide for a while. In fact they needed to hide until their enemies were DEAD. Examples of this enlightening fact are Moses. David and Y’shua The Messiah Himself! Moses had the call of the deliverer and He was hidden from the start. First he was hidden inside of a basket in the Nile, and then he was hidden as a Jew in Pharaoh’s daughter’s house. Then after killing the Egyptian, he fled to the desert, for the same Pharaoh that had loved him before was seeking him to kill him. 40 years passed until Pharaoh had died and it was safe for Moses to go back. By then the Great Deliverer had forgotten his purpose in life, and was content with being a nobody, a simple shepherd, a husband and a father, and mostly an OUTCAST. Then she gave birth to a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, "I have been a sojourner in a foreign land." Exodus 2:22 GERSHOM means in Hebrew- I have been a foreigner there In fact, Moses had developed an “insecurity syndrome”. He was no good as a public speaker, though raised in the courts of Pharaoh and educated as a ruler and as a public speaker. How come? When Yah (God) hides you for a long time, insecurity can set in because you forget who you are: In fact when He comes to retrieve you out of the “hiding place”, you do not want to come out but rather stay in that comfortable hidden place.
That which felt like a punishment at the beginning becomes the comfortable norm. This is YHVH’s preparation of His Chosen Vessels- the Deliverers, His Apostles and Prophets. They are prepared in the “dark” until all their trust in their own ability is completely gone, and then they are ready to receive Yah’s supernatural, limitless ability for the task! The LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? "Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say." Exodus 4:11, 12 Moses argued a lot with YHVH until He got angry! In other words when you hear Him calling you out of “hiding” do not argue with Him, for it is not in your natural power and ability but in His alone! He will be with your mouth; He will provide what is necessary for the task. Our job is to believe and obey though we are shaking inside! The rest is history. Moses went and did the job. The proof is that Israel is still very much ALIVE and right here in the Land of Israel, in the Promised Land! King David bailed out of King Saul’s Royal Court escaping for his life. He did a good job at hiding from him at the caves of Ein Gedy. He even hid among the Philistines, the enemies of Israel for a season. He managed to evade, to escape and even to lead an army of “Rag tag” dissatisfied, indebted individuals. However, his enemy King Saul died only after David had come to the end of himself and he was in total despair! How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death. Psalms 13:1-3 You would think that Elohim could have made sure that King Saul and the Pharaoh in Egypt would have died a little earlier. Why did He have to “hide” his Chosen Vessels. Could He not have actually destroyed their enemies? The issues are that the real enemy is not Pharaoh and King Saul. The REAL enemy is this one: SELF RELIANCE Until SELF RELIANCE dies, the enemies shall continue very much alive and the Chosen Vessel will continue “hidden” while “the world passes by” and time escapes! It took Moses 40 solid years and it took David 14 solid years. Whether 40 or 14 it depends on the Vessel and on the Peculiar Task of Deliverance he/she needs to perform. One could have thought that Messiah being Almighty God in the flesh would have not needed such a treatment. On the contrary, He received the treatment just like Moses in His infancy. His parents took Him to Egypt to hide Him from murderous King Herodes, after Joseph was warned in a dream. Later on, AFTER Herodes died, He was returned to Israel and still hid in Nazareth, a city that had no reputation of greatness! (Matthew 2:13-15) Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Yeshua of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." John 1:45, 46
Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. Hebrews 5:8 The greater the task ahead before us, the more we will have to be rescued from our enemies and remain hidden for a while. This until our enemies die and especially that ONE that seeks to destroy our lives- SELF RELIANCE! When that one is dead, YHVH will call us out of the hiding place, out of darkness, and will exalt us QUICKLY, even SUDDENLY! After 40 years, suddenly Moses showed up in Egypt again and this time as THE Deliverer! After 14 years of being an outcast on the run David was crowned King of all Judah and then Israel. After 30 years of obscurity Y’shua showed up as the Messiah in Nazareth! He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?”Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? "And His sisters are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" Matthew 13:54-56 When the “suddenly” happens, those who know you can get offended at your “sudden greatness”. They can envy you and mock you and play “the familiarity game”. They think they “know” you but they do not “know” you, anymore for now you have been taken from the dark and hidden place into the light of exaltation! Many of those who “knew” you when you were a hidden nobody in preparation, will not be able to accompany you when you are out in the light and exalted, because of their offended pride! And they took offense at Him but Yeshua said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household." Matthew 13:57 This is true about ONE person as it is true about a nation. Israel as a nation, being the source of salvation and blessing for all nations has been hidden and in preparation for the Great Task to be the Chief of the Nations and the ruling people with King Messiah sitting on His throne in Jerusalem (Jeremiah 3:17, Zechariah 14:4). After 1967, the Six Day war, we thought that we “did it”, just like David after he killed Goliath. And just like David, we have been escaping from our enemies ever since. During the Gaza War another spirit came upon our soldiers and upon most of the nation: The Spirit of Reliance upon The Almighty
Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of YHVH has risen upon you. "For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But YHVH will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. "Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:1-3 Pray also for our ministry, as we enter into a new unprecedented faze that the Spirit has told me is “off the charts”- beyond our ability to make it happen. And pray for all those who are Chosen Vessels in hiding to get ready to come from the hiding place into the LIGHT! Pray for the USA as it enters this new faze with President Obama… Please keep on praying for all those Israeli soldiers and civilians in recovery in the hospitals and for the bereaved families.
