Torah Portion TZAV – Vayikra (Leviticus) 6:1-8:36
Between COVID-19 and Passover 5780/2020
The fear of YHVH leads to life, and he who has it rests satisfied, untouched by harm. Proverbs 19:23
Shabbat Shalom Dearly Beloved, and a Truly Blessed Passover to You!
We are standing at a crossroads of time when we need to step into the future by leaving the past.
Time is paused so that choices can be made. We are paused between Judgment and Awakening or Wrath.
We are living in times similar to Genesis 19, describing Sodom and Gomorra. At that time, immorality, rebellion, and flagrant homosexuality had become the norm. Godliness was not popular. People of God, like Lot, were seen as the enemy of that corrupt, immoral, gender-confused society.
The People of Sodom and Gomorra had grown accustomed to this corrupt and low standard of living. But some were crying out in pain and desperation, not being able to take the perversion and injustice any longer. Then the Almighty sent His destroying angels,
For we are about to destroy this place, because their outcry has become so great before Adonai that Adonai has sent us to destroy it.” Genesis 19:13 TLV
The Corona Virus is a pause in the race with time. The Prophetic clock has stopped so people can make a choice. Many are realizing that they have believed a lie that “Time is money.” But time is not money; it is a free gift given to us all, in the same exact amount, by a loving Creator. How will you use this time of quarantine, social distancing, and closure of “business as usual?”
COVID-19 has forced people to quarantine with their family members. These are the only people you can be with while practicing social distancing from everyone else.
How long has it been since you have had so much quality time with those you live with? How long since you’ve eaten a meal together – or that you’ve had an honest conversation without being rushed? Husbands and wives, children, and parents have nothing else to do besides be online or having open communication lines between them.
Is it hell in your house, or are you finding heaven together with your loved ones?
People now have enough time to maybe – just maybe – start talking to God and turn away from their wickedness of unbelief and rebellion to His ways.
You will seek Me and find Me, when you will search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 TLV
But if we choose not to turn back to the Elohim who created us, what are we to expect?
More judgments and plagues.
Judgments are prepared for scoffers, and floggings for the back of fools. Proverbs 19:29 TLV
The sons-in-law of Lot were oblivious to the urgency of the times. Their conscience had grown dull to sin and perversion. They were tolerating it and were comfortable with it. They mocked Lot and his warnings:
So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law who were going to marry his daughters, “Get up!” he said, “Get out of this place! For Adonai is about to destroy the city!” But in the eyes of his sons-in-law, he was like a joker. Genesis 19:14 TLV
Resisting and rejecting God’s words leads to destruction.
thus says Adonai -Tzva’ot, the God of Israel: “I am about to bring on this city and on all her towns the whole disaster that I pronounced against it, because they stiffened their neck, rather than hearing My words.” Jeremiah 19:15 TLV
The Angels urged Lot to flee this wicked place, but his heart was divided between obeying God’s Messengers sent to rescue him and between his comfort zone, his city, his possessions, his friends, his mocking sons-in-law, his job and ultimately his sin. Lot was comfortable compromising with perverted worldly standards. How many have been raised with godly principles, but are comfortable in their sin and compromise? So, he hesitated; he was not determined to escape the perverted city with all its trappings.
So when morning dawned the angels rushed Lot, saying, “Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or else you will be swept away with the city’s iniquity!” Genesis 19:15 TLV
Are you hesitant to repent and return to the Creator, leaving behind all rebellion, sin, perversion, and mostly compromise? Have you become like Lot, and you have grown accustomed to tolerating a low and perverted standard of morality? Is your money, possessions, job, family, friends more important than your own relationship with a Holy God?
“My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me —the spring of living water— and they dug their own cisterns— cracked cisterns that hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13 TLV
What tremendous grace as shown when those Angels took Lot, his wife and daughters almost by force out of there.
But he hesitated. So the men grabbed his hand, his wife’s hand and his two daughters’ hands—because of Adonai’s compassion for him—and they brought him out and left him outside the city. Genesis 19:16 TLV
Lot and his immediate family were being rescued in spite of themselves because Abraham was praying, and Abraham was a Covenant man, a friend of El Shaddai.
However, there was a condition to the rescue, and it was “do not look back” – keep running forward to the higher ground. How many have been offered salvation and forgiveness of sins in the past, but have looked back, yearning and being nostalgic of the sin they left behind?
When they brought them outside, one said, “Flee for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stop anywhere in the surrounding area! Escape to the hills, or else you’ll be swept away!” Genesis 19:17 TLV
But Lot did not want higher grounds – he wanted to be in the permissible will of God – sheltered from the judgment, but not high enough to be in Covenant with the God of Abraham. He did not want to go too far away from Sodom. He wanted to stay close to his comfort zone of sin.
Look, please, your servant has found favor in Your eyes and You have magnified Your merciful loyalty, which You have shown me by letting me live. But I can’t escape to the hill country—for the disaster will overtake me and I’ll die! Look, please, this city is close enough to flee there, and it’s little. Please let me escape there. Isn’t it small? And let me live!” So He said to him, “Behold, I will grant your request concerning this matter too—not to demolish the city of which you have spoken. Genesis 19:19-21 TLV
The mercy of Yah allowed him the compromise to spare him from destruction because of Abraham’s intercession in Genesis 18. However, in the long run, this was very costly as Lot’s two daughters committed incest with their father to preserve the family line. This sin brought forth two nations that became the enemies of Israel, the People of Abraham: the Ammonites and the Moabites. (Genesis 19:30-38)
Yah’s mercy is unfathomable, always looking for the lowest possible common denominator to reach people where they are. But what is our response?
Hesitancy, compromise, or even looking back?
Look, please, your servant has found favor in Your eyes and You have magnified Your merciful loyalty, which You have shown me by letting me live. But I can’t escape to the hill country—for the disaster will overtake me and I’ll die! And Adonai rained sulfur and fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah from Adonai out of the sky. So, He demolished these cities and the whole surrounding area, all the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation of the ground. But his wife looked behind him and she turned into a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:19, 24-26 TLV
Lot’s wife looked back, regretting the loss of her comfortable lifestyle and affluence. She yearned for that which YHVH was judging and burning up. What are you yearning for? What do you miss from your past life in the world, in sin, in compromise?
What are you looking back to?
We remember the fish that we used to eat in Egypt, for free—the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic! Numbers 11:5 TLV
The people of Israel in the desert were looking back to their time as slaves in Egypt with longing for the Egyptian food, for the garlic and the cucumbers. They were rejecting Yah’s provision of manna. They had forgotten the bitterness of slavery they were delivered from.
But now we have no appetite. We never see anything but this manna.” Numbers 11:6 TLV
Beware of what you yearn for. God may give to you in abundance all that you desire to your detriment. They wanted meat, and they got loads of it, together with a severe plague that left many dead.
Yet while the meat was between their teeth, before it was swallowed, Adonai’s anger burned against the people. So, Adonai struck the people with a severe plague. Numbers 11:33 TLV
A plague broke out from YHVH because of their rebellion. Looking back and lusting to have what you want, rejecting His will, can destroy you.
We are paused in time. The Prophetic Clock has stopped for each one to make a choice: whether to leave the life of sin and rebellion, perversion, pornography, immorality, homosexuality, idolatry cheating, lying, stealing, self-seeking, pride and unbelief behind or to look back and die.
We are confronted with the choice of whether to accept God’s offer to be rescued from this perverse generation through the Blood of the Passover Lamb, Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah. He died and rose from the dead in Jerusalem 2000 years ago to take upon Himself the judgment we all deserved for breaking God’s Commandments. Or we can choose to mock and repudiate His offer and perish in this or another plague and for eternity.
Now these things happened as examples for us, so we wouldn’t crave evil things, just as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” And let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day 23,000 fell. And let’s not test the Lord, as some of them did—and were destroyed by serpents. And let’s not grumble, as some of them did—and were destroyed by the destroying angel. Now these things happened to them as an example, and it was written down as a warning to us—on whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore, let the one who thinks that he stands watch out that he doesn’t fall. No temptation has taken hold of you except what is common to mankind. But God is faithful—He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can handle. But with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape, so you will be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:6-13 TLV
The pause in the Prophetic Clock of History is so we can choose to surrender to His love, grace, and will humbly, or be swept in His judgment.
“Now this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world and men loved the darkness instead of the light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19 TLV
The Angel of Destruction is visiting every city and nation with COVID-19. See the Jewish Messiah and Savior, Yeshua’s (Jesus) Mighty Hand extended to rescue you from the plague of sin and eternal separation from the Father in Heaven. The way up is actually down.
When My people, over whom My Name is called, humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 TLV
