Buying The Inheritance

Buying The Inheritance

Torah Portion TOLDOT – B’Reisheet (Genesis) 25:19-28:9

But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you at a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Adonai my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 50 shekels of silver. 2 Samuel 24:24

Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!

One of the most intriguing mysteries is how we go about inheriting all that YHVH has promised to us. Most people grow weary waiting for a promise to come to pass and quit hoping that it will ever happen. Some decide to take the matter into their own hands, just like Sarai did with Abram when she wanted a child at all costs. Sarai made the choice to let her husband have Hagar her maid servant as a “surrogate womb”.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not borne him children. But she had an Egyptian slave-girl—her name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “Look now, Adonai has prevented me from having children. Go, please, to my slave-girl. Perhaps I’ll get a son by her.” Genesis 16:1

This one impatient feat has caused the descendants of the Promised Son, Isaac, a lot of hassle and bloodshed. Ishmael has been jealous of Isaac ever since.

Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. Therefore she said to Abraham, “Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac.” Now Genesis 21:9,10

Wait or Fight?

The question: Is waiting for your inheritance a passive thing or an action that must be taken? Do we have to “wait” or do we have to “fight”? Which one is going to get us through to the desired end of obtaining the fulfillment of the promise? And the answer is BOTH. There are periods of waiting and doing nothing, and there are periods of DEFINING ACTION.

This defining action cannot be to obtain a replacement for the promise, like in the case of Sarai. Although we are not explicitly told that she was certain that the promised child would come from her, she was the only wife Abram had. Who else could Adonai have meant to have the child? And yet we see that she provoked her husband Abram to a Defining Action that has defined all our People’s history. However, it was, as Abram very well knew, the wrong defining action because it violated the Principles of the Promise. Because of the violation of the Principles of the Promise, El Shaddai made it abundantly clear that He promised Abram that his wife Sarai-Sarah would bring forth a child.

And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before You!” But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. Genesis 17:18,19

Sarai opted to interpret the promise in a convenient way that fitted her culture. She said to herself: I own my servant Hagar so, in my culture, it is as IF I am the one giving birth.

The important fact is that when the Creator promises something, He has no alternatives and no AS IF, to any promise. When He speaks something, every word COUNTS. And He said that from Sarah’s womb there would be a Promised Son. No “ifs” and no “cultural interpretations” to make the Promise fit her reality.

Do not add to His words or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar. Proverbs 30:6 NASB

Waiting for a Promise

Waiting includes both being passive and active. Being “passive” means doing nothing to force it. Being “active” means hoping for it. When we hope for something, it means we believe that it will come to pass. When we do, then we praise Yah for it, we thank Him, and we talk about it as a “done deal”.

Praise, Thanksgiving and Speaking are Active Attitudes of Faith and Hope

Amen, I tell you, if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but trusts that what he says is happening, so shall it be for him. For this reason I say to you, whatever you pray and ask, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:23, 24 TLV

During the waiting period, which can often be MANY YEARS, we maintain an attitude of humility and active faith and hope, in spite of all the set-backs on the road to fulfillment. These must come first in order to mold our characters to His Image and Likeness. Our faith must be tested so we can handle the fulfillment of the Promise. We need to refrain from the “Ishmael short-cut” and keep believing until the end. When we believe we then remind YHVH of His promises. We speak it out loud to ourselves. We proclaim it against the powers of darkness that always come to discourage and divert us from our course. We refuse all the “Ishmael ideas” that try to take hold in our hearts.

For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Romans 4:3 and Genesis 15:6

Sarai is described as a skeptical and impatient. She doubted the promise and pushed her husband to comply with her doubts. On top of it, she laughed in unbelief when a son was promised in her old age. Nevertheless, Yah used her in spite of her doubts. But her doubts caused troubles. We must be careful not to manipulate our mates or co-laborers with our impatience, fears and doubts. We must not attempt to influence them to take “Ishmael routes”. Doubt and unbelief are dangerous. If YHVH promised you something, just trust Him and entrust your timing to His. Many promises are aborted or delayed because of impatience and fears.

Then they said to Him, “What shall we do to perform the works of God?” Yeshua answered them, “This is the work of God, to trust in the One He sent.” John 6:28, 29

What is a Defining Action?

Buying the land

While waiting, hoping, believing, praising, thanking and proclaiming, we may need to take some action as well. For example, Elohim promised the Land of Canaan to Abraham and to his descendants forever. However, Abraham (and others) purchased every piece of land that he used. By Promise it was his land, but the Canaanites were occupying it, so he did what was right at the time and he bought the land.

  1. He bought Hebron to bury his dead (Genesis 23:16)
  2. He bought Beer Sheba for 7 ewe lambs from Abimelech (Genesis 21:30)
  3. King David bought Mount Moriah- The threshing floor from Aravna the Jebusite, which became the Temple Mount. (2 Samuel 24:24)

All the above were offered the Land for FREE by the inhabitants, and though they had a promise, they refused to accept the land as a free gift. They wanted it to be legally theirs and that of their decedents, according to the laws of the land and not only according to the Promise. They believed the Promise of Yah enough to PAY THE PRICE to possess it! Walking the path of Yah’s Promises and Fulfillment costs MONEY, sometimes all you think you have. Do not allow anyone to lie to you and to tell you otherwise. Do you want the Prophetic Fulfillment of Yah’s Calling and Promises more than your own money and possessions? Most people never fulfill their life’s calling because they are not willing to put their money on the line. Unfortunately, they die unfulfilled and empty, truly wasted, because they were CHEAP with God!

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick by one and look down on the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Matthew 6:24

I have always been free to walk in Prophetic Fulfillment because EVERYTHING that I have and will ever have is ALWAYS available to Him. I consider everything I have as His and myself only a stewart. I enjoy His blessings because they do not own me and He can entrust me with wealth. Yah and His will is my passion and advancing His Kingdom on earth is more dear to me than anything I have. He has never failed me and has always taken care of me ROYALLY! I encourage you to get detached from your money and to let Him use it and use you the way He desires. This does not mean “recklessness”. He will give you wisdom. When He has your money, it means that He has your heart.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21

Conquering the Land

While buying the Land was the defining action of Abraham, he was willing to buy it bit by bit, conquering the Land was the defining action of Joshua. There are different strategies for different time periods. The time period of Joshua was after 430 years of slavery in Egypt and 40 years of wandering in the desert. By then Elohim needed to judge those who inhabited the Land, the Amorites and all the other “ites”, because of their flagrant IDOLATRY. From the time the land was first promised to Abraham, Elohim allowed them about 500 years to REPENT. Even though while Abraham was in the land serving as a witness in their midst concerning faith in one God – one Creator – they continued worshipping many other gods. Five hundred years later their time was up, Elohim wanted the Land for Himself. He had to reclaim His territory- so He anointed Joshua to fight for and to conquer the Land through Divine War.

So Joshua said to Bnei-Yisrael, “How long will you be slack about going in to possess the land which Adonai, the God of your fathers, has given you? Joshua 18:3

Some people are afraid, insecure and lazy and they do not FIGHT for what Yah has given them. You need to see if there is anything you need to do more aggressively to possess your promises and to walk in your Divine Calling. Spend some time in prayer and asked Abba, “Have I been slack in battle?” Expect Him to answer and to reveal His will to you!

From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. Matthew 11:12

Buying The Inheritance

Defining Actions that have shaped the State of Israel

For I will take you from the nations, gather you out of all the countries and bring you back to your own land. Ezekiel 36:24

The Jewish People began to return to the Land of Israel, which had been renamed Palestine by the Roman Empire in the First Century, and by the British Mandate after the First World War. The first thing they did in the later 1800’s was to BUY the Land from the Turks who ruled it until the Brits came. They bought swamps infested with malaria that the Turks did not want, and they paid their required exorbitant prices. They bought hopelessly rocky places and sandy lands with nothing growing on them, and paid top prices. On top of this, Dr. Hayim Weizman bought ALL of Palestine from the Brits even before they won the war or had possession of the territory. To pay for the land, he sold them his acetone formula for making explosives which allowed Great Britain to win the First World War. The Brits promised all the land of Palestine for a Jewish National home IF and WHEN the Brits won the war. This was called The Balfour Declaration. Britain won the war but BROKE THE PROMISE. The contract made with Dr. Chayim Weizman was violated with the establishment of a new country named Jordan in 70% of its territory and closed the gates to most Jews who wanted to immigrate.

This went on until after the Second World War and the extermination of over 6 million Jews by the Nazi-German Regime while most of the world was silent. The British Mandate closed the doors of Palestine to most of the Jewish refugees escaping the horrors of the Ghettos, and the Concentration and Death Camps. They broke the contract at the time when the Jews were needing the Land of Israel to escape extermination.

This was another season of time. This was a time of Divine forcefulness. The Almighty was about to judge all the powers that opposed His restoration of Israel. After the Second World War there was no more British Empire and no more Third Reich, but the State of Israel was born on May 14 of 1948.

For thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, He has sent me after glory to the nations that plundered you—because whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye— ‘For behold, I will shake My hand against them and they will be plunder to their servants.’ Then you will know that Adonai-Tzva’ot has sent me. Zechariah 2:12-13 TLV (10-11)

The Arab Nations attacked. Yet, a very small Israel, comprised of traumatized survivors of the Shoa-Nazi Devastation, managed to win every war. How did this happen? The God of Israel has been keeping His Promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and their descendants who are the Jewish People of today. There is no other logical explanation for the survival of a nation that has been outnumbered and surrounded by its enemies for so long.

He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations, the covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac. Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance,” Psalm 105:8-11

What does the future entail?

Since the establishment of the modern state of Israel, their armed forces have been called the IDF – Israeli Defense Forces – not the “IAF”- Israeli Attack Forces. Israel has been mostly in defense mode since its establishment. The enemies attack FIRST and Israel reacts afterward. The terrorists launch a terror attack FIRST and then Israel reacts. However, for the continuation of the Promised Fulfillment, it may be that Israel will find it necessary to change its strategy. In the next time period, the IDF will have to become the IAF. This change may be necessary since Israel’s enemies have been endlessly taunting its people and burning the fields of hardworking laborers at the Gaza border. Additionally, the Hezbollah has been preparing to launch a devastating attack on the North. On top of that, Iran has positioned itself in Syria in an attempt to take over the Golan Heights, and with it, the whole Land of Israel. Maybe it is time to change the strategy for the Promised Fulfillment, then we will see the Promise of Isaiah 19 come to pass and Shalom-Peace can be in the Middle East, but this shalom will not be achieved without a FIGHT.

Your future is similar to that we have seen in Israel. Before the Promise of the Almighty comes to pass in YOUR life, you will need to WAIT with hope and faith, while also taking some DEFINING ACTION at the right time. May you receive wisdom – through the study of Torah, obedience to Yah’s Word, and the guidance of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) – to have the divine balance of the Waiting, the Buying (paying the price) and the Fighting (push the enemy away from your territory!) in order to walk in the fulfillment of all of your Yah-Given Promises.

This Kingdom Embassy will allow you to take on the characteristics of a Sheep Nation by honoring the God of Israel, the Holy City of Jerusalem, and the People of Israel while proclaiming the soon return of Messiah- Baruch Habah Beshem Adonai.

We thank all our disciples, members, friends and partners for being willing to pay the price with us on the way to the Prophetic Fulfillment of Zechariah 2,

In that day many nations will join themselves to Adonai and they will be My people and I will dwell among you.’ Then you will know that Adonai-Tzva’ot has sent me to you.  Adonai will inherit Judah as His portion in the holy land and will once again choose Jerusalem. Be silent before Adonai, all flesh, for He has aroused Himself from His holy dwelling.” Zechariah 2: 15-17 (11-13) TLV
