Torah Portion NOACH – B’resheet (Genesis) 6:9-11:32 Haftarah: Isaiah 54:1-55:5
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved!
The answer to this important question can determine our behavior, our well-being or lack of it, and in fact, our life for eternity.
Is Elohim sovereign over everything or not? And if He is, then what does it matter what choices you and I make? And if He isn’t fully sovereign, how can I trust Him throughout the challenging and distressful affairs of life?
Another question also arises? Can we have an answer to this defining question while we are in this life?
I love this scripture below that gives me hope that I do not have to stay in the dark about Yah’s mysteries:
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out.” Proverbs 25:2 TLV
From this, I learned that the Almighty hides His mysteries from the simple-minded and superficial; yet He is willing to unveil them before the royal ones who seek Him and seek to know Him and His Kingdom.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 TLV
When we are in His marvelous light, His mysteries get revealed to us by the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth.
“But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; but whatever He hears, He will tell you. And He will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13 TLV
There are many religious doctrines about the question of Yah’s sovereignty, predestination, and our free will or choice. However, how many of these actually come from the Spirit of Truth? There are so many very thick theological books that leave people more confused than before they started their quest to know Yah’s kingdom mysteries. Some doctrines that are very prevalent today even in Netflix movies say:
“Jesus Christ paid the price and everyone is already saved. We do not have to choose to serve Him or to do what is right in God’s eyes as it will not change our “saved” condition.”
Another evergreen doctrine in Christian circles is the ‘once saved, always saved’ doctrine:
“Once you accept Jesus by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth, you are “saved” forever, even if you go into gross sin like immorality, homosexuality, murder, etc. you have nothing to worry about; you are saved forever.”
Then there is the doctrine that if you happen to fall from grace by falling into temptation, or you stop going to church, or you stumble into any sin, you are going to hell, no questions asked and no grace available.
And then there is the one that I call ‘The Balanced Approach’ based on what I term ‘The Gospel Made in Zion’. This is the way I read the Word and the Spirit of this amazing Good News that came out of Israel 2000 years ago:
YHVH is completely sovereign over heaven and earth and the entire universe. However, He has chosen to allow both His angelic host in heaven and humans on earth to choose for themselves whom they will serve. There are good and bad consequences to every choice.
For example, when Lucifer rebelled against the Creator together with one-third of the Malachim, angels, or Bnei Elohim (sons of God), they were expelled from heaven forever. They lost all of Yah’s glory and were thrown to the earth. Yah will never have mercy on them. Ever!
“How you have fallen from heaven, O brightstar, son of the dawn! How you are cut down to the earth, you who made the nations prostrate!” Isaiah 14:12 TLV
“You said in your heart: “I will ascend to heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit upon the mount of meeting, in the uttermost parts of the north. I will ascend above the high places of the clouds— I will make myself like Elyon.” Yet you will be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest parts of the Pit.” Isaiah 14:13-15 TLV
The lake of fire is prepared for Satan and his fallen angels (ancient gods).
“Then He will also say to those on the left, ‘Go away from Me, you cursed ones, into the everlasting fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41 TLV
In the sovereignty of Elohim, there is no forgiveness ever for this heavenly rebellion led by the chief covering cherub, Lucifer.
“Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you with great rage, knowing that his time is short.” The Revelation 12:12 TLV
Then there is the human rebellion against the laws of the Creator in the Garden of Eden. Adam in female form listened to the snake that was representing the ancient dragon, Satan, and she rebelled against the Creator. Adam, the man, followed her and they both lost the glory of Elohim. They used the power of choice to choose the voice of the snake rather than the voice of their Creator. Elohim in His sovereignty gave His humans that He created this power.
Joshua, the great military leader of Israel and Moses’ successor, makes it plain to us through the ages,
“If it seems bad to you to worship Adonai, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve—whether the gods that your fathers worshipped that were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will worship Adonai!” Joshua 24:15 TLV
May you choose to worship Him even when all around you turn against Him. He has never taken the power of choice from His humans. Yeshua, His Son, the Jewish Messiah and Savior, says to all today, to both Jew and Gentile, Arab and Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist, black and white, yellow and red, male and female,
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. To the one who overcomes I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I myself overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” The Revelation 3:20-21 TLV
Opening the door to Yeshua, to God’s forgiveness, salvation, deliverance, healing, redemption, and transformation, is an act of our will. He knocks and we must choose to answer. Do you hear Him knocking on the door of your heart?
