Crumbs or Cream

Crumbs or Cream?

Crumbs or Cream
Torah Portion BEHAR – Vayikra (Leviticus) 25:1-26:2

Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!

How many of us are giving our Master the crumbs of our life instead of the cream?

I was thinking about this when I realized that so many believers are spending their lives in vicious circles of self-seeking activities: pursuing their own happiness, their own career, their own prosperity and their own dreams. Then, after they are beat up by life and circumstances, in the best-case scenario they will surrender to Him for the remainder of their lives. By then most are sick and worn out as they have wasted the cream of their years in empty pursuits that they thought were good and reasonable. Yeshua showed me that when people give Him only the crumbs, the scraps, the leftovers it is a betrayal — and in fact they are treating Him like a dog, which can only eat the crumbs under their master’s table.

But she said, “Yes, Master, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Matthew 15:27 TLV

When we give Him “scraps” it conveys that He is at our mercy; in this case we are the master of our own lives and we just “throw Him” some crumbs of our time, crumbs of our thoughts, and crumbs of partial obedience to appease Him. This actually appeases our sense of guilt and duty and it makes us feel quite generous; however we are nothing but hypocrites and religious.

After Joshua died, the Tribe of Judah was assigned to lead the Israelites into their possession of the Land of Canaan. Judah managed to vanquish a king called Adoni Bezek and they chopped off his thumbs and big toes. This is what Adoni Bezek the vanquished king told his Judean captors:

So Adoni-bezek said, “70 kings, having their thumbs and big toes cut off, used to pick up scraps under my table. As I have done, so God has repaid me.” They brought him to Jerusalem and he died there. Judges 1:7 TLV

Here we see that defeated kings get demeaned and humiliated by eating scraps under the table of the king that vanquished them. When we give crumbs or scraps to Yeshua we set ourselves to be the ruling king and He is insulted, humiliated and demeaned as if He is a beggar waiting to eat the scraps of our lives, time, money, strength, breath and attention.

And yet the God of Israel honored us by giving us His First and Best, when He gave us His only begotten (not created!) Son Yeshua born of His loins, of the Divine Essence.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 TLV

He exalted us from the mud of our fallen, sinful, dirty, immoral, selfish, rebellious humanity to the highest place of honor: to be seated with Him in Heavenly Places!

And He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Messiah Yeshua— Ephesians 2:6 TLV

And our response to such honor, such undeserved exaltation is to dish Him some crumbs, some leftovers — this is repaying evil for good! He honored us to the highest degree by bestowing His royalty upon us through the Blood of Yeshua and we repay Him with dishonor. We disrespect Him by giving whatever is reasonable to us, whatever is convenient and comfortable — putting first ourselves, our desires, our wants, our family, our friends, our aspirations, and our logic. He gave us ALL of Him and we are treating Him like a dog.

That hurts. It hurts Him and it also hurts us. Repaying evil for good, dishonor for honor guarantees that evil and the curse will never leave our house!

Whoever rewards evil for good— evil will never leave his house. Proverbs 17:13 TLV

Have you ever wondered why Cain’s offering was not accepted and Abel’s was?

So it happened after some time that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to Adonai, while Abel—he also brought of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. Now Adonai looked favorably upon Abel and his offering, but upon Cain and his offering He did not look favorably. Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell. Genesis 4:3-5 TLV

Crumbs or Cream

You see, Cain brought “an offering”. That is whatever felt good for him to give. He did not give Elohim the first and the best of the produce of the Land. In fact he probably had eaten the first fruits already so he brought the Creator of the Universe whatever he had left over. However, Abel brought the FIRST born of his flock and all the FAT portions. Cain brought Elohim the crumbs and Abel brought Him the cream. By Cain’s offering He was insulted; by Abel’s offering He was honored. Cain in his pride and jealousy, which often accompanies religion, rose up and murdered his righteous brother. Then Elohim doomed him to be an eternal wanderer with a stigma upon his forehead — Cain was never to find rest. Abel, however, even though he suffered, right after his death found rest in the bosom of the Father in Heaven for all eternity.

When we give YHVH scraps, we are doomed to become depressed, angry and restless — we are banished from the Presence of Elohim.

We may suffer for doing what is right and while giving the cream of our lives to Him, but we will have an eternal reward that will compensate for all our suffering. And in this life we will also experience an abundance of life that comes from His Presence and from His Word that is made flesh in us.

The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly! John 10:10 TLV

Only when we give Him the cream and He is the King in every way (when He is the very Center and Focus of our being) will we be healthy in our soul and be stable in all circumstances. We will have true prosperity that starts in the soul and then manifests in all other areas of our lives.

Loved ones, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul. 3 John 2 TLV

Whether we are up or down, when times are easy or hard, our Center will not change: He will be our stability in all situations.

And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of YHVH is his treasure. Isaiah 33:6 NASB

Giving Him the cream of our lives is not something exceptional. The Word calls it our “reasonable service” in Romans 12:1 KJV — I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

The proper response to the honor He has bestowed upon us (by giving us His First and His Best) is to offer ALL of our lives, time, and strength upon the Altar of Service to Him. Whatever He called us to do — whether in the Ministry, in the Professional arena or in business, as a housewife and mother, as a cleaner or in some other service — whatever it is, serve Him there with all your heart, mind and strength!

Crumbs or Cream

The problem is that many serve themselves instead of serving Him. They want a job for the money, not to serve Him. They want to study a career to satisfy themselves, but do not bother to seek Him as to His will in the matter. Many get married without even consulting Him — only to get divorced soon after. I am not talking about unbelievers, but about believers, beloveds! Have you conformed to this world in your thinking and self-seeking?

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 TLV

We cannot discern His perfect will if our mind thinks like the rest of the world does. Without surrendering our all to Him and submerging ourselves in His Word and Spirit we will not be able to know His will. You may come to the end of your life just to hear that the offering of your life has not been accepted by Him.

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. Oh, that you were either cold or hot! So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spew you out of My mouth. Revelation 3:15,16

When we give Him crumbs, scraps, partial obedience, or what is “convenient” to us means we are lukewarm. He is being insulted, demeaned and humiliated by the way we relate to Him. We are repaying evil for good, dishonor for honor and evil will never leave us unless we do TESHUVA. This means to repent, return and become restored to an unbroken communion with Him. The more honor you bestow upon Him by giving Him the cream of your life, the more glory that you will walk in and will be filled with.

Honor your father and your mother just as Adonai your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and it may go well with you in the land Adonai your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 5:16 TLV

The above is about earthly parents and how HONOR plays a big role in our wellbeing! There is great benefit for honoring our Father in Heaven by giving Him all of us as a Living sacrifice on His Altar.

My prayer is that you will now choose to stop dishonoring Him with the crumbs of your life, your strength, your time, your finances, your breath, your worship — and you will start honoring with the CREAM of your life!

Come now, let us reason together,” says YHVH “Though your sins be like scarlet,
they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will become like wool.
If you are willing and obey, you will eat the good of the land. But if you refuse and rebel you will be devoured with the sword.” For the mouth of YHVH has spoken. Isaiah 1:18-20 TLV
