Torah Portion KI TAVO – Devarim (Deuteronomy) 26:1–29:8 Haftarah: Isaiah 60:1–22
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved!
“So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45 TLV
Yeshua is the only Adam (human) we are patterned after.
He will be the last Adam forever. He is our example and our king as well as our brother. We are called to be like Him.
“whoever claims to abide in Him must walk just as He walked.” 1 John 2:6 TLV
Every struggle we are going through, every challenge on our way, every promotion that stretches us beyond our limits, is because the Holy Spirit, the Ruach HaKodesh, is helping us to become more like Yeshua as a human.
“My brethren, consider it all joy when you fall into diverse challenges; knowing this, that the testing of your faith produces patience, the ability to endure for a long time. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be full of shalom and whole, lacking nothing.” Yakov 1:2-4 STB
Yeshua, before He became a man, a ben adam, a Jewish human, was a co-creator with Elohim the Father. But Elohim cut off His right arm and sent Him to us to become a Jewish man from the house of David (on both sides) and from the house of Aharon (on Miriam’s maternal side), thus fulfilling numerous prophecies.
The first man is from the earth, made of dust; the second man is from heaven. People born of dust are like the man of dust, and people born from heaven are like the man from heaven; and just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, so also we will bear the image of the man from heaven. 1 Corinthians (1 Co) 15:47-49 CJB
After He rose from the dead, He became a glorified Adam, not a glorified God (Elohim does not need to be glorified, He is the Glory). And we shall be like Yeshua, glorified humans.
It is to the human Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, anointed King of the Jews that YHVH gave all His authority. It was not given to the God Yeshua. He did not need it prior to becoming the Last Adam; He already had it all!
It was given to the human, Jewish Yeshua who overcame sin as a human, not as God.
In fact, when we refuse to relate to the humanity of Yeshua, including His Jewishness, we are under the spirit of anti-Messiah.
“Dear friends, don’t trust every spirit. On the contrary, test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Here is how you recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges that Yeshua the Messiah came as a human being is from God, and every spirit which does not acknowledge Yeshua (as a HUMAN) is not from God — in fact, this is the spirit of the Anti-Messiah. You have heard that he is coming. Well, he’s here now, in the world already!” 1 Yochanan (1 Jo) 4:1-3 CJB
The same doctrine of Replacement Theology* that was signed into law through the Council of Nicaea in the 4th century AD has wreaked havoc in our understanding of the humanity of Yeshua, as well as in the following areas:
- Unleashed hatred against the Jews and everything deemed Jewish.
- Aversion against the Torah, the Laws of God.
- Substitution of the original Holy Feasts for Roman pagan feasts and timing.
- Substitution of the identity of the Jewish Messiah for a Greco-Roman identity.
- Demotion of women to be second class and inferior to men.
- An irrational fear against the Jewish Messiah as a human.
- Causing large portions of the Church to fall into the clutches of the Anti-Messiah.
“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruit. Grapes aren’t gathered from thorn bushes or figs from thistles, are they? Even so, every good tree produces good fruit, but the rotten tree produces bad fruit.” Matthew 7:15-17 TLV
When we relate to Yeshua as a human, we have no more excuses. Abba sent us His example of how we should walk, talk, behave, and pray:
“Therefore Yeshua answered them, “Amen, amen I tell you, the Son cannot do anything by Himself. He can do only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise.” John 5:19 TLV
However, many would say, “He is the Messiah; how can I compare with Him? How can I aspire to be like Him? The following Scripture is most revealing of Yeshua as the Son of Man, as human.
“In the days of His life on earth, Yeshua offered up both prayers and pleas, with loud crying and tears, to the One able to save Him from death; and He was heard because of His reverence.” Hebrews 5:7 TLV
Yeshua was heard by YHVH not because He was His Son but because of His reverence for Elohim. He feared Yah, though He was one with the Almighty and co-Creator of the Universe with Him prior to being born as the Second Adam. He certainly did not walk the earth as God but as Adam, thus He feared Yah as all humans should. He prayed, he loudly cried, and supplicated just like you and I do when we are desperate or we are interceding. And He was heard just like you and I will be heard if we walk in the fear, awe, and reverence of the God of the universe!
And notice this very revealing verse that shows us the humanity of the Messiah.
“Though He was a Son, He learned obedience from what He suffered. And once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him—” Hebrews 5:8-9 TLV
Yeshua had to learn obedience, just like each one of us needs to learn obedience, and we do not automatically know how to obey Yah.
He had to suffer to learn obedience. Are you suffering right now? If you learn obedience through the things you suffer, you will be made perfect, which means shalom or whole. It is not about “perfectionism” but wholeness, full of shalom. Notice that learning obedience made Him a source of salvation to those who obey Him, follow, and imitate Him in His obedience to YHVH.
“Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me.” John 14:1 TLV
When we do this, then we live for Him and we become a source of salvation for others who will listen to us, follow us, and imitate us as we imitate Yeshua.
“Amen, amen I tell you, he who puts his trust in Me, the works that I do he will do; and greater than these he will do, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12 TLV
Walk like He walked and you will overcome all tribulations, learn obedience through suffering, and demonstrate His love and power to all those He sends you to.
Pray with me:
Father in Heaven, thank you for sending Your Son to die for my sins and to show me the way to live like Him. Yeshua, reveal yourself to me as the Last Adam and teach me to walk as you walked. Amen.
