Torah Portion KI TETZE – Devarim (Deuteronomy) 21:10–25:19 Haftarah: Isaiah 54:1–10
“Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land.” Exodus 23:30 ESV
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved!
Have you ever grown frustrated that your dreams and visions are not happening fast enough? Do you feel left out or that you “missed the boa?”. We can see a pattern in the Scriptures that repeats itself: He takes His time to prepare His People before they actually possess their promises. His purpose is not to give His children over to the enemy when the enemy is stronger than they are.
“You did not hand me over to the enemy. You set my feet in a wide-open place.” Psalms 31:9 TLV
Yah does not allow Israel to possess the Land all at once in order to avoid backlash from the beasts of the field that would kill the people and destroy fields and flocks, tearing apart sheep and goats.
“I will not drive them out from before you in a single year. Otherwise the land would become desolate, and the animals of the field will multiply against you.” Exodus 23:29 TLV
We can see the principle of Yah’s merciful consideration when the People came out of Egypt and instead of taking them in a straight line through the shortcut, He took them around to avoid the camp of the Philistines. He knew His People were not ready to tackle the Philistines yet.
“After Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines, although that was nearby, for God said, “The people might change their minds if they see war and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Sea of Reeds, and Bnei-Yisrael went up out of the land of Egypt armed.” Exodus 13:17-18 TLV
We can even see His Divine Mercy after the 12 spies came back from the Land with a frightening report: It is indeed a wonderful land but there are giants in the Land!
They gave their account to him and said, “We went into the land where you sent us. Indeed, it is flowing with milk and honey—this is some of its fruit. Except, the people living in the land are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw the sons of Anak (Giant) there!” Numbers 13:27-28 TLV
Only two were ready to tackle those giants, the other 10 were scared and gave into their fears. Indeed, Yah’s People as a whole were not ready to tackle giants yet and possess the Land.
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We cannot attack these people, because they are stronger than we.” Numbers 13:31 TLV
“We also saw there the Nephilim. (The sons of Anak are from the Nephilim.) We seemed like grasshoppers in our eyes as well as theirs!” Numbers 13:33 TLV
Instead of taking Joshua and Caleb alone to possess the Land, these two courageous men had to wait for a new generation to be born, grow up and be ready, for a New Generation to arise. It took 40 years for that, then they were ready.
“However, My servant Caleb, because a different spirit is with him and he is wholeheartedly behind Me, I will bring him into the land where he went—his offspring will inherit it.” Numbers 14:24 TLV
We can see the same pattern with David, anointed to be King only to spend 14 years in the wilderness escaping from the compromised king Saul. Neither David nor Israel were ready for the Kingdom of David to be established. David needed to become stronger and stronger and Saul weaker and weaker. This was a lengthy process, not an instant miracle.
Now the war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. While David grew steadily stronger, the house of Saul grew steadily weaker. 2 Samuel 3:1 TLV
This principle keeps on repeating itself in modern-day Israel. The State of Israel was established in 1948, and we are still fighting the same enemies. However, we can see a desert generation that is dying and a new generation like Joshua and Caleb arising. In spite of all the giants, the terror attacks, the life loss and the setbacks, this new generation, mainly among the religious Zionists, are rising up with a fearless spirit like Caleb had.
“I am 85 years old today. I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me—as my strength was then, so is my strength now, for war and for going out and coming in. Now therefore, give me this hill country about which Adonai spoke on that day. For you heard on that day how the Anakim were there as well as great, fortified cities. Perhaps Adonai will be with me, and I will drive them out, just as Adonai has spoken.” So Joshua blessed him, and he assigned Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his portion. Joshua 14:10-13 TLV
Often, we think that we should advance faster but Yah takes His time with us, making sure that we are ready to tackle what we need to fight to possess. Every step we take in the desert of preparation is important. We must keep our eyes on Yeshua and learn to follow Him and the cloud of glory and not the crowd that is in the flesh. When He moves, we move. When He stops, we stop. This is tough on the flesh but it is the sure path to victory!
Whenever the cloud lifted up from above the Tent, then Bnei-Yisrael would set out, and at the place where the cloud settled, there Bnei-Yisrael would encamp. Numbers 9:17 TLV
The other day the Spirit of Elohim gave me three words that cause us to succeed in the Mission we were given on earth:
Persistence
Perseverance
Longevity
“so you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those inheriting the promises through trust and perseverance.” Hebrews 6:12 TLV
Stay with it! No matter how long it takes, never, never give up, and you will end up possessing all the promises Yah has given you. Encourage yourself with these words when you are tempted to quit in disappointed frustration. Remember that He knows when you are ready to tackle the Philistines and the Giants and come out unscratched and victorious! You may have been ready years ago but others in His Army were not ready and you had to wait for them. Or maybe a desert generation needed to die and a new fearless generation arose. Whatever is the reason for the delay in your life, wait for it in hope!
For the vision is yet for an appointed time. It hastens to the end and will not fail. If it should be slow in coming, wait for it, for it will surely come—it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:3 TLV
