An Open-Heart Letter from the Midst of the War
At the Dead Sea Hotel with the evacuees from Sderot, October 30, 2023.
I came to rest after about two intense months following the organizing and leading of our annual Sukkot Tour until the Hamas massacre of October 7 Shabbat on Simcha Torah, and then the ensuing war against an indescribable evil, with all its demands for help.
We departed the USA on my 64th birthday, September 5, the very day the PNG Embassy opened in Jerusalem, and we received the permit to finish building Sukkat Yehoshua in Beit Hogla-Gilgal. What a joy that was!
I may be the only one paying full price at the Dead Sea Hotel. It is a miracle that I even found a room. Many citizens of Sderot are here; people are here recovering from the shaking events of October 7th and the week following – the present-day Shoah. Most of the hotels in Israel are full of evacuees from the south and the north, about 200,000 of them!
I came to rest so I can continue helping in Yah’s anointing and wisdom. However, my heart breaks with every conversation I initiate with the people. So many children! What horrors have they seen? Some even tell me their story. Yes, and even the story of their miraculous survival from the shocking, brutal massacre. Most are eagerly hoping for the IDF to do its job in Gaza thoroughly, eradicating all traces of Hamas so Sderot and all the Negev can live in Shalom. Amen.
Security forces dressed in bright orange and yellow vests and soldiers in army fatigues are everywhere in the hotel. So are volunteers, educators, and psychologists. School activities are organized for the children. Their mayor, Alon David, is taking good care of them. It helps. They are enveloped with care, at least here in this hotel. The serene surroundings of the Dead Sea shores and its healing waters are a blessing to their shaken, bereaved, and traumatized souls.
There is no tourism in Israel; the skies are shut to flights due to the constant Hamas rockets falling all over Israel.
I am glad that our flights have been canceled again and again so we can be here to pray, to give, to comfort, and to broadcast the truth. We are shoulder to shoulder; we are part of the spiritual Air Force and Boots on the Ground.
Every smile I give, every prayer I say, every hug and listening ear I lend helps someone. Every effort of my husband to drive me all over Israel and cater to me in this holy mission is a great help. Every prayer our UNIFY members and partners send, every offering they give, helps someone and often even hundreds and thousands of “someones.” Every shopping voucher to the evacuees, every shekel provided to help the soldiers, every $$$ sent to outfit emergency squads in hostile areas – it all helps. It also brings hope and a smile to the face of the receivers. “Someone in the nations cares for us. We are not alone”.
I can hear YOUR voices in my spiritual ears saying:
“No, Israel, you are not alone! We, the sons and daughters of the God of Israel, through the Jewish Messiah, are with you!”
As we look back on history to this day, we will be able to say to our children, grandchildren, families, and congregations, yes, and even to the nations:
We, the United Nations for Israel, were there, Boots on the Ground, all the way from our Sukkot Tour to the Hamas massacre of October 7, the present shoa – the devastation, and later throughout the lengthy war. We were PRESENT. We will also be present at the time of resurrection in our May 2024 tour, which was prophetically named “From Devastation to Resurrection” much before this War of Independence of 2023. Yes, we, the representatives of our future Sheep Nations, the UNIFY members, are here to STAY.
“Ruth replied, “Do not plead with me to abandon you, to turn back from following you. For where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Adonai deal with me, and worse, if anything but death comes between me and you!” Ruth 1:16-17 TLV
Your faithful stand and unconditional love comfort my heart. In the heat of battle, I did not notice that I was in mourning too. All 1,400 murdered, the 239 kidnapped (including babies, children, and elderly), the nearly 6,000 wounded, the millions traumatized, the destroyed houses, the over 200,000 evacuees, the constant rockets sending us to the nearest shelter, the 300,000 IDF troops drafted, including my own close family members and friends: they are all part of our national family. We are Israel.
“‘In that day many nations will join themselves to Adonai and they will be My people and I will dwell among you.’ Then you will know that Adonai-Tzva’ot has sent me to you. Adonai will inherit Judah as His portion in the holy land and will once again choose Jerusalem. Be silent before Adonai, all flesh, for He has aroused Himself from His holy dwelling.” Zechariah 2:15-17 TLV
