Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved!
I have chosen a life of DAVKA – a life that does everything on purpose, regardless of the circumstances.
Davka in Hebrew means:
To stick to your plan, idea, vision, mission on purpose, especially when all is against you. This is how we, the Jewish People, have survived despite much persecution. This is how Israelis have become the most resilient people in the world and how the IDF is such a strong army, though comparably smaller than many other superpowers.
The more difficult life becomes for us the more we dance and sing. In Egypt the more they oppressed us, the more we multiplied. Despite the oppression, husbands and wives loved on each other and bore more babies. Instead of being depressed for the bitterness of slavery, they kept on enjoying life and multiplying – Davka!
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread. So the Egyptians dreaded the presence of Bnei-Yisrael. Exodus 1:12 TLV
Devek (from which the word Davka is derived) means glue.
When we walk Davka, we are glued and focused upon the goal. We cannot be moved or shaken out of The Way.
Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 TLV
This is what Romans 8:28 really means. Stay your course, glued and focused on your goal, on purpose. Do not allow circumstances to sway you to the right or to the left, fully knowing that all adversity will pass soon and somehow all will work for your good. Even satan is included in the “all”. Though he is our adversary trying to wreak havoc in our life, when we walk DAVKA (blessed, happy, healthy, prospering and rejoicing), despite the difficulties and even tragedies, all he does against us will only serve to strengthen you and me.
The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly! John 10:10 TLV
Just like the eagles fly best in contrary winds, so do you and I – when we walk Davka, on purpose! It is just like the Woman in Revelation 12 (that represents Israel) who flew higher when the 7 headed red dragon was trying to kill her.
But the woman was given two wings of the great eagle, so that she might fly away from the presence of the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is taken care of—for a time, times, and half a time. The Revelation 12:14 TLV
Catch the contrary winds and fly higher! Davka believes Yah and ALL His Promises. Davka smiles when your heart is breaking. Davka praises Him when you would like to die. Davka does good to others when you would like to quit on mankind. Davka loves in the face of rejection. Davka dances when you would like to sink in sorrow. With every step of faith you take in the midst of adversity, you will be crushing the head of the snake!
I will put animosity between you and the woman— between your seed and her seed. He will crush your (snake) head, and you will crush his heel. Genesis 3:15 TLV
