The Freedom of the Cross

Torah Portion BESHALACH – Shemot (Exodus) 13:17- 17:16 Haftarah: Judges 4:4-5:31

So when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Which one do you want me to release for you? Yeshua, who is Bar-Abba, or Yeshua, who is called Messiah?” Matthew 27:17 TLV

Both were Jews and called Yeshua, and both were called Son, which is Bar or Ben, and both were the Son of Abba, the Father. But the difference between the two is that Yeshua the Messiah was completely righteous and Yeshua Bar Abba was a complete sinner, a rebellious murderer.

And a third time he spoke to them, ‘Why? What evil has this One done? I have found in Him no fault deserving of death. Therefore, I will scourge and release Him.” But they were insistent, demanding with loud shouts that He be executed. And their voices prevailed. Luke 23:22-23 TLV

When the Righteous One was handed over to be crucified in His innocence, the criminal one got his freedom; he was rescued from the death penalty.

And He released the one they were asking for, the one thrown in jail for insurrection and murder. But he handed over Yeshua to their will. Luke 23:25 TLV

The Freedom of the Cross

Our freedom as sinners who deserve to be judged, prosecuted, and handed the death penalty comes from Yeshua’s crucifixion in innocence. Had He not paid with His life we could never be free. Had He not been handed to Pilate with the demand from the ruling priests to kill him, Yeshua Bar Abba would have been crucified that day, and he deserved it. But Yeshua, the King of the Jews, was there on His way to the cross. It is only because of His sacrificial death that we receive our freedom, our lives.

But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities. The chastisement for our shalom was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 TLV

His sacrifice in innocence made Him great for all eternity. His obedience to His Abba is releasing sinners from eternal death until this day. His death brought us LIFE!

Therefore I will give Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the spoil with the mighty—because He poured out His soul to death and was counted with transgressors. For He bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12 TLV

The Freedom of the Cross

His death was sacrificial, for He had the power to stop His execution, but He chose not to. Instead, He used the power to lay down His life.

For this reason, the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, so that I may take it up again. No one takes it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own. I have the authority to lay it down, and I have the authority to take it up again. This command I received from My Father.” John 10:17-18 TLV

All those Christian doctrines from the past accusing the Jews of murdering the Savior are baseless, and they have caused the extermination of millions of Jews in the name of Christianity! His death was not a murder but a sacrifice. The ruling priests were being used by the God of Israel to hand His Son over to the Romans for execution. Yeshua had chosen to lay down His life so that Jews and Gentiles could live. The Romans executed Him with gusto.

Then the governor’s soldiers took Yeshua into the Praetorium and gathered the whole cohort around Him. They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe around Him. And after braiding a crown of thorns, they placed it on His head and put a staff in His right hand. And falling on their knees before Him, they mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Him, and they took the staff and beat Him over and over on the head. When they finished mocking Him, they stripped the robe off Him and put His own clothes back on Him. And they led Him away to crucify Him. Matthew 27:27-31 TLV

Archbishop Dominiquae Bierman

Whenever we are called to lay our lives down to obey Yah and fulfill the life mission He has given us, we have the same authority. We can lay it down, or we can oppose His will. The choice is ours. When we lay it down in obedience, many will be freed because of our sacrifice. Like Bar Abba, they may not deserve it, but they will obtain their freedom. The sacrifice of Yeshua released grace, and whenever we follow His footsteps, we release grace to the undeserving.

Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don’t be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, those who practice homosexuality, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, slanderers, and swindlers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 TLV

We extend the grace we received when we were undeserving.

That is what some of you were—but you were washed, you were made holy, you were set right in the name of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and by the Ruach of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 TLV

I do not deserve my freedom. I do not deserve Yeshua, salvation, healing, and deliverance; neither do you. Our reasonable thank you to Him is to lay down our lives so that many more will be freed; thus, His sacrifice will not be in vain.

I urge you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice—holy, acceptable to God—which is your spiritual service. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2 TLV

Jesus' pierced hands

He is calling you and me to be His friend, to lay our lives down for Him. We are called to make His sacrifice on the execution tree of Golgotha count.

No one has greater love than this: that he lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.” John 15:13-14 TLV

Will you hear the command of the resurrected Jewish Messiah? Will you answer His call to friendship?

Study at GRM Israeli Bible Institute

You’ll never need to take another Bible School again. GRM Bible Institute is a washing machine that leads you to the 1st century truth. You will discover the original Gospel made in Zion that has set many free.

    Testimonies from the students:

I was second in command for a nationwide gang, but with the help of YHVH and GRM Bible School, I have begun to denounce that, after 21 years of membership. The enemy has been attacking me because of it. He knows he is losing a warrior, but I fight a different war for a different Master now. – J.M.

I used to be confused and uncomfortable because I didn’t know what to believe. There are so many different doctrines, all going against each other and teaching different things. I now understand the Gospel better and know my faith’s roots. – E.P

I have been wrong all my life, but now I understand what God wants from me! – R.D.
