Torah Portion BALAK – Bamidbar (Numbers) 22:2-25:9 Haftarah: Micah 5:6-6:8
“because the hill country should be yours. Though it is a forest, you will clear it, and to its farthest borders it will be yours—for you will drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots and even though they are strong.” Joshua 17:18 TLV
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved,
How often have you felt that you are too weak and do not have enough strength to possess your God-given destiny? This is how the Tribe of Ephraim felt in Israel thousands of years ago.
They had been promised a land but were afraid to fight with those seemingly stronger than themselves. They had a Covenant Promise and the Name of YHVH Zevaot, the Lord of the Armies, the God of Israel. But their enemies had iron chariots. They saw those threatening iron chariots (like the ballistic missiles of Iran today) as stronger than the Word and the name of Yah!
“The hill country will not be enough for us,” the children of Joseph replied. “But all the Canaanites who inhabit the valley land have iron chariots—both those who are in Beth-shean and its villages and those who are in the Jezreel Valley.” Joshua 17:16 TLV

They were struggling in the narrow place when they could have had the full land allotted to them. Their fear was keeping them small and narrow. Joshua answered them:
“But Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, “You are a numerous people with great strength! You shouldn’t have just one allotment, because the hill country should be yours. Though it is a forest, you will clear it, and to its farthest borders it will be yours, for you will drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots and even though they are strong.” Joshua 17:17-18 TLV
In other words, do not fear; fight and believe.
Of course, these words should minister to every one of us. It does not matter how strong the enemy seems to be or how hard the job or ministry we are called to do. We are called to fight and believe.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly but powerful through God for the tearing down of strongholds. We are tearing down false arguments and every high-minded thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Messiah.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 TLV.

We possess weapons because we are called to an epic war; thus, we need to utilize the weapons of prayer, praise, giving, and forgiveness to fulfill our promises and complete our mission.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil, and after you have done everything, to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:12-13 TLV
In the same way, Israel must fight and believe in order to possess all of her Promised Land. Israel is living in a very tiny fraction of this land, but she needs to enlarge her territory from the River in Egypt to the River Euphrates in the Persian Gulf.
“For behold, the days are coming,” declares Adonai, “when I will return My people Israel and Judah from exile,” declares Adonai. “I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.” Jeremiah 30:3 TLV

Israel did not want to fight; thus, she was attacked by Iran, and all nations around saw her as weak. Now that she is fighting, the Arab nations will begin to fear her, and Israel will have a respite from war. But she needs to apply sovereignty to all the territory promised to her and obtained by war. This includes: Judea and Samaria, Lebanon, Gaza, portions of Syria, and all the way to the Persian Gulf, which is the border between Iraq and Iran today.
“On that day Adonai cut a covenant with Abram, saying, ‘I give this land to your seed, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:’” Genesis 15:18 TLV.
“Turn, journey on, and enter the hill country of the Amorites and all their neighbors, in the Arabah, the hill country, the lowland, the Negev, and by the seashore—the land of the Canaanites and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the Euphrates.” Deuteronomy 1:7 TLV

Israel did not want to fight, but she MUST fight and believe. If she does not, she will be distressed seriously by her neighbors, who cry out to their god Allah day and night. They remind Israel who her God, YHVH, is: The Great I Am, who is stronger than all ballistic missiles and nuclear bombs.
And YES, this is a spiritual war, though it must be fought also in the natural.
YHVH, not Allah, is the Greatest! And He is called the God of Israel.
“A psalm of David. Adonai, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise up to my help. Draw out also a spear and battle-axe. Stop those who pursue me. Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” Psalms 35:1-3 TLV
Israel, do not fear; fight and believe.

Testimonies from the students:
I was second in command for a nationwide gang, but with the help of YHVH and GRM Bible School, I have begun to denounce that, after 21 years of membership. The enemy has been attacking me because of it. He knows he is losing a warrior, but I fight a different war for a different Master now. – J.M.
I used to be confused and uncomfortable because I didn’t know what to believe. There are so many different doctrines, all going against each other and teaching different things. I now understand the Gospel better and know my faith’s roots. – E.P
I have been wrong all my life, but now I understand what God wants from me! – R.D.
