Torah Portion BESHALACH – Shemot (Exodus) 13:17-17:16 Haftarah: Judges 4:4-5:31
“but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.” Acts 10:35 TLV
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved!
I have read Acts chapter 10 countless times. The story is about Cornelius, this Righteous Gentile who honored and loved the Jews. He gave alms to the synagogue and prayed to the God of the Jews. He was a Roman Captain, an idol worshipper, and part of the pagan conquering nation over Israel and the Jewish people; yet he was deemed acceptable to Yah, acceptable enough to send His chief Jewish apostle, Peter, to minister to his family and friends! An awesome revival broke out in his home!
“While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.” Acts 10:44-45 ESV
It dawned on me that there may be many acceptable people out there who do not know Yeshua. They may be doing what is right in Yah’s eyes, though they do not know Him or His Son and the way of salvation. They may even be Christian, but they do not know Him as a Jewish Messiah.
Most outreach has focused, for the most part, on the rebellious and the downtrodden, but what about the acceptable?
What made Cornelius acceptable before Yah, even acceptable enough to earn him a visit from a Jewish apostle?
“A devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the Jewish people, and prayed continually to God.” Acts 10:2 STB
He gave finances to the Jewish people.
He prayed to the God of the Jews, whom He did not know.
He was devout and faithful to do these two things without fail.
“And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.” Acts 10:4 ESV
These righteous acts before Yah (God) built a memorial for him in the third heavens. A memorial means the God of Israel and His angelic host could not ignore Cornelius! Every time he gave an offering to the Jews and prayed a prayer to their God, this memorial grew taller. Please understand that Cornelius was still an idolater; he was a pagan, yet he was trying to do the right thing before the God of the Jews!
“Then Peter opened his mouth and said, “I truly understand that God is not one to show favoritism, but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.” Acts 10:34-35 TLV
Are these righteous acts still acceptable before the God of Israel, enough for Him to send some Jewish apostles their way? I am certain they are!
For the last 36 years of our life, Yeshua has sent us to over 50 nations in response to the invitation of Cornelius-like people. Our visit to their families, churches, and countries has brought them the Jewish Messiah Yeshua, and the Gospel made in Zion, together with salvation, healing, deliverance, and personal and national transformation.
“You know how God anointed Yeshua of Natzeret with the Ruach ha-Kodesh and power—how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 TLV
Then many of them have followed us to visit and learn in Israel through our annual Feast Tours and Bible School on Wheels.
“The inhabitants of one city will go to another, saying, ‘Let us go to entreat the favor of YHVH and to seek YHVH-Tzva’ot. I also am going.’” Zechariah 8:21 STB
The prophecy of Zechariah 8 is coming to pass before our eyes!
“Thus says YHVH-Tzva’ot, ‘In those days it will come to pass that ten men from every language of the nations will grasp the corner of the garment of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’” Zechariah 8:23 STB
With these Cornelius-like people, we have birthed the fulfillment of the prophecy of Zechariah 2 concerning Sheep Nations.
‘In that day, many nations will join themselves to YHVH, and they will be My people, and I will dwell among you.’ Then you will know that YHVH-Tzva’ot has sent Me to you.” Zechariah 2:15 STB
Cornelius-like people are the right kind of people to become the beginning of Sheep Nations.
