Signed in Blood

Torah Portion EIKEV – Devarim (Deuteronomy) 7:12-11:25 Haftarah: Isaiah 49:14-51:3

“For a covenant is secured upon the basis of dead bodies, since it has no strength as long as the one who made it lives. That is why not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood.” Hebrews 9:17-18 TLV

Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved.

Do you know that what we call the Ten Commandments, or actually the Ten Words, is a Heavenly contract? A covenant is a contract signed in blood. Therefore, when covenants are made, it is called “cutting a covenant;” in Hebrew, LICHROT BRIT.

“For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Torah, he took the blood of the calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and he sprinkled both the book itself and all the people.” Hebrews 9:19 TLV

In every one of the covenants that Elohim cuts, there is blood involved, including the first one He made with Noah. Noah first offered blood sacrifices of clean animals after leaving the Ark, then Elohim declared His covenant with humanity.

Then Noah built an altar to Adonai, and he took of every clean domestic animal and of every clean flying creature, and he offered burnt offerings on the altar. When Adonai smelled the soothing aroma, Adonai said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, even though the inclination of the heart of humankind is evil from youth. Nor will I ever again smite all living creatures, as I have done. While all the days of the land remain, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.” Genesis 8:20-22 TLV

We can also see that when He cut a covenant with Abraham to give him and his seed the Land of Canaan, there was blood involved:

Signed in Blood

“Then He said to him, ‘Bring Me a three-year-old young cow, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtle-dove, and a young bird.” So he brought all these to Him and cut them in half and put each piece opposite the other, but he did not cut the birds. On that day Adonai cut a covenant with Abram, saying, “I give this land to your seed, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:” Genesis 15:9-10, 18 TLV

Then Yah goes on to make a covenant that will define Abraham and His seed through Isaac and Jacob as His people. The Covenant of Circumcision, again involving the shedding of blood, was the cutting of the foreskin of every male.

“This is My covenant that you must keep between Me and you and your seed after you: all your males must be circumcised. You must be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and this will become a sign of the covenant between Me and you. Also, your eight-day-olds must be circumcised, every male, throughout your generations, including a house-born slave or a slave bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed.” Genesis 17:10-12 TLV

Then when He made the covenant with the people of Israel in Sinai, there was also blood involved.

Then Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which Adonai has cut with you, in agreement with all these words.” Exodus 24:8 TLV

In fact, the Ten Commandments are called the Tablets of the Covenant, LUCHOT HABRIT.

“Now at the end of 40 days and 40 nights, Adonai gave me the two tablets of stone—the tablets of the covenant.” Deuteronomy 9:11 TLV

The Covenant with David is made by YHVH right after King David brings back the Ark of the Covenant to the City of David. Every six paces, they stopped and made a blood sacrifice, culminating with a big sacrifice in Jerusalem.

Signed in Blood

They brought in the ark of Adonai and set it in its place in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before Adonai. When David had finished offering the burnt offering and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Adonai-Tzva’ot. 2 Samuel 6:17-18 TLV

Then YHVH sent Nathan the Prophet with the words of the covenant.

“When your days are done and you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up your seed, who will come forth from you after you, and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish his royal throne forever.” 2 Samuel 7:12-13 TLV

When He made the covenant with Solomon, or rather, confirmed the covenant made with his father, David, it was after a large blood sacrifice.

So the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Upon this very altar, Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings. At Gibeon, Adonai appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask for what I should give you” 1 Kings 3:4-5 TLV

After YHVH promises wisdom, riches, and unprecedented fame and prosperity, Solomon ratifies it one more time with a blood sacrifice.

Then Solomon awoke and took note of the dream. So he went to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then he made a feast for all his courtiers. 1 Kings 3:15 TLV

The Ultimate Covenant

“For the life of the creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives—for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life.” Leviticus 17:11 TLV

When the New Covenant was made, it was the blood of the Messiah Himself that signed the covenant. When His blood poured out from the Tree of Calvary and was dripping, He said, “It is finished.” His signature, His blood, which is the blood of His Father, signed the covenant. It was not breaking any of the other covenants. This Ultimate Covenant Signature was confirming and completing all His other covenants – not replacing but completing. That is why His last words were “It is finished,” and then He expired his last.

When Yeshua tasted the sour wine, He said, “It is finished! “And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30 TLV

When that happened, every other Covenant Promise that YHVH had promised mankind (Noah), Abraham, Israel, David, and His seed would be fulfilled in Yeshua. Yeshua’s blood is the Ultimate Signature of all the words of the Covenant His Father promised. Nothing would fail to come to pass. This includes the promise given to Abraham, and repeated to Isaac and Yaakov: He will grant the entire land from the River in Egypt to the River Euphrates in the Persian Gulf to their descendants, the Jewish people of today, the State of Israel. Yeshua’s blood is the Ultimate Signature for all of Yah’s promises to be fulfilled. Even if it took 2000 years of judgment, punishment, and exile, the promise of His Father still stands.

“For behold, the days are coming,” declares Adonai, “when I will return My people, Israel and Judah from exile,” declares Adonai. “I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.” Jeremiah 30:3 TLV

Yes! Yeshua’s blood confirms it all, including forgiveness of sins to all of Israel. We must put our faith in His blood, that His blood signature is enough for all the covenant promises to be fulfilled.

God set forth Yeshua as an atonement, through faith in His blood, to show His righteousness in passing over sins already committed. Romans 3:25 TLV

Signed in Blood

And even if most of the Jewish people do not yet know it, all the grace of returning back to the Land and all the victories against our enemies stem from the fact that the Messiah signed with His blood the promises of His Father to the nation of Israel.

“Thus says Adonai, who gives the sun as a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars as a light by night, who stirs up the sea so its waves roar. Adonai-Tzva’ot is His name: “Only if this fixed order departs from before Me”—it is a declaration of Adonai—”then also might Israel’s offspring cease from being a nation before Me—for all time.” Thus says Adonai: “Only if heaven above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then also I will cast off the offspring of Israel—for all they have done.” It is a declaration of Adonai. “Behold, days are coming”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“when the city will be rebuilt for Adonai, from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.” Jeremiah 31:34-37 TLV

And we must put our faith in the Blood of Yeshua that already accomplished it all. This includes the salvation of all of Israel.

“For I do not want you, brothers and sisters, to be ignorant of this mystery—lest you be wise in your own eyes—that a partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer shall come out of Zion. He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. And this is My covenant with them when I take away their sins.” Romans 11:25-27 TLV

We can rejoice, praise, and pray from the place of Covenant Fulfillment. As we do so, we will see the manifestations of His Covenant Words in glory and power, because they are signed in blood, His blood. And it is finished. His name, Yeshua, is signed in blood in our very being.

“Now may the God of shalom, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep by the blood of an everlasting covenant, our Lord Yeshua, make you complete in every good thing to do His will, accomplishing in us what is pleasing in His sight through Messiah Yeshua. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21 TLV

    Testimonies from the students:

I was second in command for a nationwide gang, but with the help of YHVH and GRM Bible School, I have begun to denounce that, after 21 years of membership. The enemy has been attacking me because of it. He knows he is losing a warrior, but I fight a different war for a different Master now. – J.M.

I used to be confused and uncomfortable because I didn’t know what to believe. There are so many different doctrines, all going against each other and teaching different things. I now understand the Gospel better and know my faith’s roots. – E.P

I have been wrong all my life, but now I understand what God wants from me! – R.D.
