A Bridal Message
Torah Portion VAYKRA – Vaykra (Leviticus)1:1-5:26 Haftarah: Isaiah 43:21-44:23
“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest,” He answered. Exodus 33:14 TLV
Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved,
Restlessness cannot be taken lightly, especially among believers in Messiah. It is a clear sign of the lack, or leak, of the Presence of Yah. Moses was so aware of this that he was willing to forfeit entering the Promised Land if Yah’s Presence would not go with the People of Israel.
“So Moses said to Adonai, ‘You say to me, “Bring up this people,” but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My eyes.’” Exodus 33:12 TLV
He was willing to stay in the desert with the sand, snakes, and scorpions as long as the Presence of Yah would remain with them. Adonai was willing to send an angel, but Moses would not compromise.
“But then he said to Him, ‘If Your presence does not go with me, don’t let us go up from here! For how would it be known that your people or I have found favor in Your sight? Isn’t it because You go with us that distinguishes us from all the people on the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:15-16 TLV
Many people do mighty exploits and may be famous, rich, talented, and passionate. But what makes us distinguished is His Presence. When people spend time with you, do they notice you carry “a presence” that they cannot fully describe? It is His presence that people are touched, transformed, and even saved by. His presence in you may also cause conviction in unrepentant hearts, and some people may escape and evade you.
It is said of the great Apostle of Faith, Smith Wigglesworth, that when he started praying, many people would run away from him. The presence of Yah is both fearsome and calming. Fearsome to those who hide their sin, yet calming and healing to the broken-hearted.
“The Ruach Adonai Elohim is on me, because Adonai has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” Isaiah 61:1 TLV
This message is for those among us who consider themselves to be spirit-filled, pray in tongues, and yet are restless. Stop all that you are doing, lay it on the altar, and find His presence again. Many of us may be trying to “do this, or that,” like Martha was.
“But Martha was distracted with much serving; so she approached Yeshua and said, “Master, doesn’t it concern you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Then tell her to help me!” Luke 10:40 TLV
Her sister Miriam was sitting at the feet of Yeshua, and Martha was upset and jealous.
“She had a sister called Miriam, who was seated at the Master’s feet, listening to His teaching.” Luke 10:39 TLV
Martha’s need for acceptance by the Master was to work harder than anyone. She wanted to find favor through her doing. But Yeshua lovingly rebuked her about her restlessness.
“But answering her, the Lord said, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and bothered about many things; but only one thing is necessary. For Miriam has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 TLV
There is nothing wrong with working hard and serving food to guests. We are encouraged to be hospitable. However, missing the Presence of Yah because of our eagerness to serve, be noticed, and be praised is a sin. Martha felt abused and overworked, as if some taskmaster was standing with a whip over her, forcing her to serve rather than sit and listen to Yeshua. However, she was driven by another force and not led by the Ruach, the Holy Spirit.
She became like a martyr of her own cause, not the cause of Yah.
Many years ago, when I became a pastor in Israel, Yeshua gave me a rudder for life. These are the 2 proverbs that have led my life and ministry:
- The good is the enemy of the perfect.
- It is better to be popular with God than to be popular with man.
Every time that people try to push me or the ministry entrusted to me to be bigger, more well-known, or more popular by doing this or that, I remember these proverbs. When people get restless and want us to be like everyone else, I remember these proverbs. I am not willing to advance, grow, or be more popular at the expense of His Presence.
Remember my words: if you become restless because you are not doing enough, or because you are doing too much and others are not helping you, stop everything, repent, and return to find a place at Yeshua’s feet until your shalom returns. Then you will not want anything else but to please the Master and to please Him alone.
We are a bridal ministry, His own possession. He is the author and the designer of every part of it. He can mold us and shape us when we want nothing but His Presence. When His Presence goes with us, we go, and we are unstoppable!
When His Presence does not move, we do not move.
“Now whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tabernacle, Bnei-Yisrael went onward, throughout all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not move out until the day that it was.” Exodus 40:36-37 TLV
Trying to please men or our own selfish ambitions will keep us restless, and it is rooted in pride.
“A Song of Ascents. Of David. Adonai, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes lofty, nor do I go after things too great or too difficult for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul—like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.” Psalm 131:1-2 TLV
Choosing the good part makes His presence rest in us.
“Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations. I am exalted in the earth.” Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us. The God of Jacob is our strong tower. Selah” Psalm 46:11-12 TLV
