Torah Portion NOACH– Genesis (Beresheet) 6:9-11:32 Haftarah: Isaiah 54:1-55:5
“For ADONAI has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel as His treasured possession.” Psalms 135:4 TLV
Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved,
Something truly miraculous happens when we realize that YHVH has chosen Israel as His treasured possession, which in Hebrew is the word SEGULA.
“For you are a holy people to Adonai your God, and Adonai has chosen you to be a treasured people (Am Segula) for Him out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.” Deuteronomy 14:2
AM SEGULA—A highly valuable, treasured people.
“Segula” comes from the biblical root.
ס־ג־ל, carrying the idea of a valued possession/property specially acquired or reserved. In Scripture, Israel is repeatedly called YHVH’s segulah (Exodus 19:5; Deuteronomy 7:6; Psalm 135:4).
This important truth was hidden from many in the nations for a long time. What prevented this understanding is a spirit of jealousy. Replacement Theology that was established as church doctrine and church law was born out of the spirit of jealousy. It was stated by Emperor Constantine in the Council of Nicaea in 325:
“Let us separate ourselves from the detestable company of the Jews, for the “savior” (which one?) has showed us “another way” (another gospel).”
The moment that the church separated from the Jews and everything Jewish, it ceased to be grafted into the Olive Tree of Israel. In its understanding, it changed the word “SEGULA” for “detestable” when it came to the Jewish people. This is going the opposite direction to what YHVH declared Israel to be:
In Deuteronomy 7:6 it says:
“For you are a holy people to Adonai your God—from all the peoples on the face of the earth, Adonai your God has chosen you to be His treasured people (AM SEGULA).”
“From all the peoples of the earth Adonai has chosen Israel.” The spirit of jealousy could not take this fact, so instead of relating to Israel and the Jewish People as Yah’s treasured people, it declared them to be trash, discarded, and cursed forever and their Torah with them. What many generations from among the gentiles did not understand was that if you relate to the Jewish People as “trash, subhuman (like Hitler did), cursed, and detestable,” you become that way to YHVH.
But if you honor the Jewish People and the Israel of today as Yah’s special chosen treasure above all other people, you will become like them, a treasure to Adonai. Yes, through the Blood of the Jewish Messiah, you will become grafted into their same glorious Covenant Olive Tree, not to usurp their place but to join them.
“But if some of the branches were broken off and you—being a wild olive—were grafted in among them and became a partaker of the root of the olive tree with its richness, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.” Romans 11:17-18 TLV
There is this popular proverb that says “birds of a feather flock together.” So if you honor the Jewish people as Yah’s special treasured people above all others, you from the nations become a highly valued treasure to Him.
I will bow down My knee to bless, favor, do good, and exalt those who bow down their knee to bless, favor, do good, and exalt You. And I will decree a curse of misfortune and total destruction to those who dishonor and disrespect you by taking you lightly. And in unity with you, all the families of the earth will be blessed. Genesis 12:3 STB
The truth that Israel, the Jewish people of today, are His Segula is an uncontested fact because it is repeated in the Bible many times. It does not matter what anyone’s opinion is; what matters is His opinion only, and He chose them- period.
“Now today Adonai has affirmed you as His treasured people (Am Segula), as He promised you; that you are to keep all His mitzvot.” Deuteronomy 26:18
“So they shall be Mine,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot, “in the day I make them My treasured possession (Segula). I will spare them, as one spares his son serving him.” Malachi 3:17
The thing is that the whole earth belongs to YHVH, so it’s not only that Israel is His possession because He is the owner of the whole earth.
“A psalm of David. The earth is ADONAI’s and all that fills it—the world and those dwelling on it.” Psalms 24:1 TLV
Israel is beyond His belonging; it is His special, highly valued treasure. Then we can understand why He said the following:
“For thus says ADONAI-Tzva’ot, ‘He has sent me after glory to the nations that plundered you—because whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—’For behold, I will shake My hand against them and they will be plundered to their servants.'” Then you will know that ADONAI-Tzva’ot has sent me.” Zechariah 2:12-13 TLV
Any nation, family, or person that overcomes the spirit of jealousy and surrenders to the fact that Israel is His Segula will shine together with Israel. That is, not to overshadow or usurp Israel’s place, but in humility joining her and supporting her in being a special chosen treasure of the Almighty.
“In that day many nations will join themselves to ADONAI, and they will be My people, and I will dwell among you.” Then you will know that ADONAI-Tzva’ot has sent me to you. ADONAI will inherit Judah as His portion in the holy land and will once again choose Jerusalem. Zechariah 2:15-16 TLV
And anyone, nation, church, community, government, or individual that chooses to keep “trashing” His special chosen treasure and insists on taking Israel, His Jewish People, and the Jewish State of Israel lightly instead of His Segula, will be in grave danger.
Be silent before ADONAI, all flesh, for He has aroused Himself from His holy dwelling.” Zechariah 2:17 TLV
A Prayer of Repentance
ABBA, my Father in Heaven. I ask your forgiveness for not treasuring Your Segula, Your Jewish People, as You do. I repent in dust and ashes, and I ask you to deliver and cleanse me from the spirit of jealousy in Yeshua’s name. Help me to shine together with them as I commit myself to honor them and make them shine in all that I say and do. Amen.
