Torah Portion KI TISA – Shemot (Exodus) 30:11-34:35 Haftarah: Ezekiel 36:16-38
Since YHVH your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy; and He must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you. Deuteronomy 23:14 NASB.
Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!
Grooming ourselves, our hearts, our clothes, our surroundings, our homes, our workplace, and our camp is a Kingdom issue—and in fact a warfare issue. Things that are not clean, not groomed, and indecent can cause us to be defeated before our enemies. It is no surprise, therefore, that demon spirits are also called “unclean spirits.”
Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout, “You are the Son of God!” Mark 3:11
Man-made religion has sought to separate the natural realm from the spiritual realm, but the two are interconnected at all times. In fact, Elohim spoke the natural realm into existence.
Then Elohim said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. Genesis 1:11
Adam—humankind was left to care for these “earthly matters,” to rule over the earth, and to subdue it. (Genesis 1:28). Adam was created for the earth, not for the Heavens and Yeshua is called the Last Adam. He came to do two major things: To pay the Ultimate price for our rebellions and to teach us how to live on this earth in a manner worthy of His Kingdom. He is the King of Kings, and the Torah made flesh (the Word made flesh), and the Torah is the instructions that YHVH gave the People of Israel on how to live on this earth. Surely, when He bestowed these awesome instructions on His people, no other nation could compete with them. No enemy could stand against them. Their obedience to Elohim’s commandments made them great.
Blessed are you, O Israel; who is like you, a people saved by YHVH, who is the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty! So your enemies will cringe before you, and you will tread upon their high places. Deuteronomy 33:29
Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, fulfilled all the Torah concerning the Sacrificial System. He became the Ultimate sacrifice!
By His will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Messiah Yeshua once for all. Hebrews 10:10
But this does not mean that he cancelled or negated the spiritual principles or the practical earthly instructions that teach us how to LIVE on this earth in a Godly, Holy, Clean (not “religious” nor rigid) manner before YHVH.
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets! I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. Amen, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or serif shall ever pass away from the Torah until all things come to pass. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others the same shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever keeps and teaches them, this one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees and Torah scholars, you shall never enter the kingdom of heaven! Matthew 5:17-20
This means that the practical instructions of the Torah on how to live on this earth are not done away with. This includes our rest on Shabbat (Isaiah 56), the way we are commanded to eat clean animals (see Leviticus 11), the way we are to relate to our neighbor, and even the way we are to handle our clothes and our living quarters.
When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure. Deuteronomy 23:9
These awesome instructions of cleanliness kept the Jewish people healthy in the midst of terrible plagues in Europe. The Torah had taught the Jewish people to bathe after marital relations, after women’s periods, and when there is any discharge from the body, and to go to the toilet “outside the camp.” This kept bacteria and infections away from the Jews in a backward Europe that did not know about such things as hygiene and infections until well into the 19th century. Entire populations were decimated because of lack of hygiene that provoked plagues. The only thing that decimated the Jews was the hatred of their Christian neighbors accusing them of “murdering Christ,” and they brought these plagues on. The Jews did not eat unclean animals such as pigs, horses, rabbits, or mice, nor blood or fat, which further kept them healthier than their Christian neighbors, who claimed to have the truth about God but without Torah.
Grooming ourselves, our clothes, and our living quarters keeps infections away and keeps demons away, since unclean spirits get attracted to chaos, disorder, and dirt. Even nature reveals this, as you can see that flies always get attracted to dirt: the more dirt and disorder, the more flies, insects, and sickness you will find. Not for nothing, satan is called “the lord of the flies” or Baalzebul who was also called Baal-Zebub. Zebub is “fly” in Hebrew. This is the name for a certain Baal deity. (Matthew 12:27, Luke 11:15).
For those of us in Covenant with Yah (God) through Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah and the Living Torah, we have a promise.
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, and no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. Psalm 91:5-13
This is a wonderful promise given to the People of Israel in the context of obedience to Torah. We make YHVH our refuge when we follow His instructions. When He is our wisdom, when His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Of course, there are things that are not under our control, and His grace is sufficient for us. But many things are under our control, and we need to be diligent to follow His instructions and common sense to prevent plagues, pestilences, and infections. Dirt, both personal and in our homes, causes disease, and it attracts trouble. We need to keep our hearts and minds clean as well, and also our bodies, our clothes, and our homes. And of course, we need to properly maintain our intestines by eating healthy, natural foods and clean animals (if you are not a vegetarian).
Neglect in our lives brings about poverty and diligence brings wealth.
Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Proverbs 10:4 NASB
Neglecting our heart, our appearance, and our surroundings attracts poverty, depression, hopelessness, and endless vicious cycles that do not belong in the life of a New Covenant believer. The eyes of YHVH are everywhere—He can see if you have neglected your appearance, if your underwear is torn, if your house is dirty and neglected, and if your heart is full of weeds of bitterness, laziness, and unbelief, and it makes Him sad. He is our Daddy. Signs of neglect in the hearts and lives of His children make Him sad. It grieves the Holy Spirit within us.
Many believers are not walking in victory because of neglect. They are defeated before the enemy. They are trapped in a cycle of neglect. It is time to leave this vicious cycle that may come from our culture, family habits, or our own choices and cleanse our lives, including our hearts, our clothes, our homes, and our workplaces. It is time to get dressed up as royalty from the inside out!
Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house; Then the King will desire your beauty. Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him. Psalms 45:10-11 NASB
If neglect and dirt (spiritually and physically) is part of your culture or your family habits, then FORGET it! The following is a very important truth to remember for life:
It is not poverty that brings about neglect; it is neglect that brings about poverty. The antidote is diligence in all that is entrusted to us, and diligence brings about prosperity.
Humble your heart, forsake all “victim mentality,” and be transformed into an orderly, clean, well-groomed individual from the inside out. Then the king will desire your beauty!
Humble your heart to get rid of excuses, bitterness, pride, rage, and unbelief to change your habits to Kingdom habits! “Kill the victim mentality in you before it kills you!”
Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 NASB
We encourage you to live your lives before Him at all times as the Royal Priesthood and the Holy Nation that He created us to be!
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for YHVH’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NASB).
Then you will have victory over the enemy, for He will see no unclean and indecent thing in your heart, in your life, and in your surroundings.
