Torah Portion KI TEITZEI – Devarim (Deuteronomy) 21:10-25:9 Haftarah: Isaiah 54:1-10
“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine. Song of Solomon 6:3a TLV
Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved.
We have entered the Month of the Heart, the 6th month of the Biblical calendar, also called ELUL.
ELUL is the acronym for two powerful principles in two scriptures.
- Ani leDodi ve Dodi Hu Li, which means “I am my beloved, and my beloved is mine” (Song of Songs 6:3).
- Et Levavcha Veet Levav. – “And YHVH your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your seed” (Deut. 30:6). Here too, the initials Elul are required: Your heart and the heart (of your seed). The idea here is particularly beautiful: Elul is a month of opening the heart, correcting the heart, and getting ready for Yom Teruah (the Feast of Shofars) and Rosh Hashanah.
“Also, Adonai your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants—to love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live.” Deuteronomy 30:6 TLV

This month prepares us for the High Holidays of the Seventh Month, the month of Tishrei. These include, most particularly, Yom Teruah, the Feast of Shofars (Trumpets), aka Rosh HaShana (New Year), that traditionally calls us to return to Yah, and Yom HaKippurim, the Day of the Atonements, the holiest day of the Biblical Calendar.
“Then on the tenth day of the seventh month, on Yom Kippur, you are to sound a shofar blast—you are to sound the shofar all throughout your land.” Leviticus 25:9 TLV
The Holy Scriptures have a lot to say about the heart. In fact, the New Covenant given to Israel and Judah, which Gentile believers have received, is based on that principle of “heart circumcision.”
“Behold, days are coming”—it is a declaration of Adonai—”when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days”—it is a declaration of Adonai—”I will put My Torah within them. Yes, I will write it on their heart. I will be their God and they will be My people.” Jeremiah 31:30, 32 TLV
Heart circumcision happens when we repent of breaking Yah’s Commandments and open our hearts for the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to write the Torah, His instruction in righteousness, in our hearts. This is the outcome of a true New Birth.
“Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. The old things (old sinful ways) have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 TLV

During the month of Elul, the shofar is blown every day, calling the people to repentance for sins against our fellow neighbor, brothers, and sisters in the Covenant given to Israel.
“When My people, over whom My Name is called, humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 TLV
Among the Jewish People it is a time of introspection: Who have we hurt with our attitudes, our words, actions, or even thoughts? Many of us approach others we think we have wronged and ask for forgiveness and reconciliation. Often making restitution is involved. This prayerful introspection softens hearts and restores shalom among us and also between each one of us and Adonai. We can see the same spirit in the Book of Matthew that most probably was written in Hebrew originally.
“Therefore, if you are presenting your offering upon the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.” Matthew 5:23-24 TLV
This is an invitation to those among the nations that have been grafted into the Israeli Olive tree through the New Covenant given to Israel and Judah to enter into the spirit of the Month of the Heart. The Jewish Messiah, Yeshua, the executor of the New Covenant signed in His Blood is inviting us in.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and ‘you will find rest for your souls.’” Matthew 11:28-29 TLV

This is a call to Teshuva, repentance, and returning to His ways and will. Spend some time in His presence and ask Him, “Have I wronged You or Israel or my brothers and sisters in any way? Have I erred with my mouth? Have I made promises to You or to others that I have not kept? Have I harbored the sin of unbelief, doubting Your word and character? Have I resisted Your will because it is inconvenient?”
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:9-10 TLV
Let us ask Him to highlight our hearts of anything that may obstruct our intimacy with Him, with Israel, and with our Covenant brothers, sisters, neighbors, co-workers, and families. This is also the best time to stand in the gap for the sins of the Church and of our nation against Israel (the state and the Jewish people) in prayer and through offerings of restitution.
A Prayer
ABBA Shebashamayim, our Father in Heaven, the Mighty and Merciful God of Israel, I come before You in humility to ask You to convict me by Your Ruach-Spirit of any sin of commission or omission on my part that has brought grief to You or to others. I ask for Your goodness to lead me to Teshuva and to help me soften my heart so Your Torah and personal instructions to me can be written on it. In the name and on behalf of Yeshua, You Son, my Messiah and Savior, I pray. Amen.
“Also keep Your servant from willful sins. May they not have dominion over me. Then I will be blameless, free from great transgression. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14-15 TLV
The Month of ELUL is a Divine Call to Covenant Love.
“And you shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”” Mark 12:30-31 TLV

Study at GRM Israeli Bible Institute
You’ll never need to take another Bible School again. GRM Bible Institute is a washing machine that leads you to the 1st century truth. You will discover the original Gospel made in Zion that has set many free.
Testimonies from the students:
I was second in command for a nationwide gang, but with the help of YHVH and GRM Bible School, I have begun to denounce that, after 21 years of membership. The enemy has been attacking me because of it. He knows he is losing a warrior, but I fight a different war for a different Master now. – J.M.
I used to be confused and uncomfortable because I didn’t know what to believe. There are so many different doctrines, all going against each other and teaching different things. I now understand the Gospel better and know my faith’s roots. – E.P
I have been wrong all my life, but now I understand what God wants from me! – R.D.
