Special Shavuot Edition 2026
Torah Portion BAMIDBAR – Bamidbar (Numbers) 1:1-4:20 Haftarah: 1 Samuel 20:18-42
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude—through this we may offer worship in a manner pleasing to God, with reverence and awe. For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29 TLV
Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved.
In the Torah portion called Shmini, we got acquainted with fiery events. These show us the importance of the fear of YHVH when we relate to His presence and glory. It also shows us the importance of following His instructions to keep the Holy Fire of His Glory burning in us. We are the temple of His Holy Spirit.
“Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit) who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19 TLV
We have to be careful and honor the Holy Fire of His Ruach that filled us as He filled the Jewish believers of the First Century.
When the day of Shavuot had come, they were all together in one place. Suddenly, there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And tongues like fire spreading out appeared to them and settled on each one of them. They were all filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh and began to speak in other tongues as the Ruach enabled them to speak out.” Acts 2:1-4 TLV
This was the fulfillment of what happened in the Torah when the Holy Fire fell on the altar and consumed the sacrifice.
First Fire: The Holy Fire of Blessing
“Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them. Then he stepped down from presenting the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the fellowship offerings. Moses and Aaron then went into the Tent of Meeting. When they came back out and blessed the people, the glory of Adonai appeared to all the people. Fire came out from the presence of Adonai and devoured the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.” Leviticus 9:22-24 TLV
YHVH made Himself real to His people, Israel, when His Holy Fire fell on the man-made altar. In the same way, He made Himself real to His people, Israel, after the Messiah rose from the dead. His Jewish disciples were celebrating Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, and the Holy Fire fell on them and filled them up to overflowing.
“They were all filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh and began to speak in other tongues as the Ruach enabled them to speak out.” Acts 2:4 TLV
From that moment, the Good News of Yeshua began to spread like fire everywhere!
“Meanwhile, through the hands of the emissaries, many signs and wonders were happening among the people. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico.” Acts 5:12 TLV
However, soon enough, some wicked people wanted to usurp the Move of His Holy Fire and pervert it. A man named Simon offered to buy the Ruach HaKodesh with money.
“Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit). Now, when Simon saw that the Ruach ha-Kodesh was given through the laying on of hands by the emissaries (apostles), he offered them money, saying, “Give this power to me, too, so that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Ruach ha-Kodesh.” Acts 8:17-19 TLV
The answer of the apostles was very fiery.
“Peter said to him, ‘May your silver go to ruin, and you with it—because you thought you could buy God’s gift with money! You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.” Acts 8:20-21 TLV
It reminds me of what happened in the Book of Leviticus right after the Holy Fire of Yah fell on the altar. Two of the sons of Aaron the High Priest sought to usurp the Glory. They took from the Holy Fire on the altar to exalt themselves and their priesthood above their father. They took from the holy fire without being authorized in order to promote their own priesthood, their own ministry.
Second Fire: Unauthorized fire
“Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his own censer, put fire in it, laid incense over it, and offered unauthorized fire before Adonai, which He had not commanded them.” Leviticus 10:1 TLV
One of the reasons why revivals die is because of selfish ambition, self-promotion, pride, and rebellion against the leadership established by Yah. The answer of YHVH to this was to pour out another kind of Holy Fire, not of blessing but of judgment. Not the one that brings life but the one that brings death.
Third Fire: Holy Fire of Judgment
“So fire came out from the presence of Adonai and consumed them. So they died before Adonai.” Leviticus 10:2 TLV
Many are crying out as Elyahu the prophet did for Yah’s Holy Fire to come down from Heaven to bring forth revival.
“Answer me, Adonai, answer me, so that these people may know that You, Adonai, are God and that You have turned their hearts back again.” Then the fire of Adonai fell and consumed the burnt offering—and the wood, the stones, and the dust—and licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces, and they said, “Adonai, He is God!” Adonai, He is God!” 1 Kings 18:37-39 TLV
When we see His Holy Fire falling again, let us keep a humble heart. We are not the origin of the Glory; He is. We are not to use the anointing to promote ourselves. And let us be very careful to honor the leadership that Yah has positioned over us to keep the Holy Fire burning on the altar.
Then many will fear Him and will be saved.
“For behold, the day is coming—it will burn like a furnace—when all the proud and every evildoer will become stubble. The day that is coming will set them ablaze—says Adonai-Tzva’ot—leaving them neither root nor branch. “But for you who revere My Name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings. Then you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.” Malachi 3:19-20 TLV
