Torah Portion BALAK – Bamidbar (Numbers) 22:2-25:9 Haftarah: Micah 5:6-6:8
“He wiped out the handwritten record of debts with the decrees against us, which was hostile to us. He took it away by nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:14 TLV
Yeshua is the Living Torah; He is the Word made human flesh. In Him the Torah passed through the Cross. But was this in order to cancel or remove the Messiah and the Torah forever? On the contrary, it was in order to glorify the Messiah and the Torah through death, burial, and resurrection, and to set humanity free by nailing our debts to the cross through His blood sacrifice. Yeshua rises from the dead in glory; the instructions from the Torah rise from the dead through Yeshua. However, our bill of debt for breaking His commandments is cancelled. When we turn to Him, it’s cancelled. Yeshua paid the price in full.
“In Him we have redemption through His blood—the removal of trespasses—in keeping with the richness of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7 TLV
Does the Tanach (Hebrew Bible) talk about the glorification of the Torah? It does!
“Adonai was pleased, for the sake of His righteousness, to make Torah great and glorious.” Isaiah 42:21 TLV
Does it talk about the removal of debts? It does.
“Come now, let us reason together,” says Adonai. “Though your sins be like scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 TLV
“No longer will each teach his neighbor or each his brother, saying, ‘Know Adonai,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest.” it is a declaration of Adonai. “For I will forgive their iniquity; their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:33 TLV
Does the Brit Chadashah talk about an expanded, glorified Torah? It does!
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets! I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.” Matthew 5:17 TLV
“Fulfill” means to bring the full interpretation of it, make it greater, and expand it. He proceeds to do that in the same chapter, showing us not only the letter of the Torah but the spirit of it.
“You have heard it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever commits murder shall be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca’ shall be subject to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be subject to fiery Gehenna.” Matthew 5:21-22 TLV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that everyone who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28 TLV
Does it talk about the removal of debts through Yeshua’s sacrifice? It does!
“God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world (because of their sin debts) but in order that the world might be saved through Him (the removal of debts through His blood sacrifice). The one who believes in Him is not condemned; but whoever does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not put his trust in the name of the one and only Ben-Elohim.” John 3:17-18 TLV
It is time to realize that when we turn to Yeshua in repentance for breaking the Father’s Commandments, our debts are erased. However, the Torah, the instructions of Elohim, is not. They merely change location from tablets of stone to hearts of flesh.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days”—it is a declaration of Adonai—”I will put My Torah within them. Yes, I will write it on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be My people.” Jeremiah 31:32 TLV
Now the Ruach HaKodesh, the Holy Spirit, can guide us into all truth, and teach us how to walk in the anointing, with the Living, Glorified Torah inside of us. We defeat temptation, sin, and Satan with every step of faith and obedience we take.
That is the Gospel made in Zion that creates victorious, holy, and righteous sons and daughters of the Living God of Israel!
“Yeshua answered them, ‘Amen, amen, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now the slave does not remain in the household forever; the son abides forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” John 8:34-36 TLV
We are free from sin, not free from Yah’s eternal laws.
“so that the requirement of the Torah might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Ruach.” Romans 8:4 TLV
The Holy Spirit has been given to empower us and to teach us to walk in obedience to Yah’s commandments and principles; not under the law but with the Torah written in our heart.
“For the mindset of the flesh is hostile toward God, for it does not submit itself to the law of God—for it cannot. So those who are in the flesh cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the Ruach—if indeed the Ruach Elohim dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Ruach of Messiah, he does not belong to Him.” Romans 8:7-9 TLV
We are called to walk in the Spirit of Messiah. How did he walk?
“The One who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to Him.” John 8:29 TLV
He did not please men or their traditions or his own fleshly desires. He only sought to please The Father.
“For if you live according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Ruach you put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live. For all who are led by the Ruach Elohim, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:13-14 TLV
Prayer
Abba, forgive me for walking in the flesh, breaking your commandments, thinking they are done away with, or simply ignoring them. I realize today that you desire to write your Torah inside of me by your Holy Spirit. I say YES, fill me with your Ruach (Spirit) and write Your ways and commandments in my heart. Help me walk as Yeshua walked, from a place of complete forgiveness and acceptance, to always do what is pleasing unto You. Thank you for nailing my debt of sin to the Cross and for writing Your Torah inside my heart and mind. In Yeshua’s mighty name. Amen.
I break all curses that have fallen upon you because of walking in the flesh, fulfilling your desires but not pleasing The Father. Let His Ruach write Yah’s commandments in your heart that you may walk in the anointing and freedom of the Holy Spirit. In Yeshua’s name. Amen.
“For the creation eagerly awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly but because of the One who subjected it—in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Romans 8:19-21 TLV
