Torah portion CHUKAT – Bamidbar (Numbers) 19:1-22:1 Haftarah: Judges 11:1-33
Shabbat Shalom, dearly beloved,
The other Shabbat, I received this word from Yah as a message for our Talmidim behind bars.
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread. So the Egyptians dreaded the presence of Bnei-Yisrael.Exodus 1:12 TLV
Some of them in a few facilities report experiencing persecution from guards and chaplains who feel threatened by the message of GRM and the Jewish Roots of the faith. While we are eternally grateful for most of the chaplains and guards who are wonderfully favorable and commendable, some, instead of facilitating this awesome move of Yah, seemed to be doing their best to kill it. I praise Yah, they are in the minority.
Those who try to narrow the steps of our team do so by refusing to publish the Messianic meetings, by giving privileges to normal Christian groups but not to the Messianic, and more. The smell of discrimination and anti-Jewish feelings can also be a stench in the prison system, both from inmates and staff. Because they are closed in, this state of affairs can become even more oppressive than for those outside of prison. It can even become dangerous. You see, inmates have no rights except religious rights and freedom of worship. If those are taken, they have nothing to look for. Needless to say, this has grieved us on the team to no end. We see the injustice; what should we do? We are not there to advocate for them. We are there to disciple them in the ways of Yeshua through our GRM Bible School. We need to know the boundaries of this ministry. Then Yah spoke to me on Shabbat when the team was preparing to leave for one of their regular prison visits in one of the many facilities.

Affliction and oppression can become a springboard for revival and multiplication if we keep advancing against all odds. The Israelites kept on loving, marrying, and birthing even in the midst of slavery. They did not play dead. It is the very multiplication of disciples and the fruitfulness that is a threat to this world system. Satan is not afraid of religious people, but he is deathly afraid of true disciples of Messiah.
“Come, we must deal shrewdly with them, or else they will grow even more numerous, so that if war breaks out, they may join our enemies, fight against us, and then escape from the land.” So they set slave masters over them to afflict them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Raamses as storage cities for Pharaoh.” Exodus 1:10-11 TLV
We have many students who are inmates. A quiet MAP (Messianic Apostolic Prophetic) revolution of faith is happening within the prison system of America. Many are repenting from Replacement Theology Christianity and rooted anti-Semitism, and are learning to walk in the Gospel made in Zion. Many Jews are getting saved as well in this atmosphere of Truth leading to Teshuva (repentance). When you read their testimonies in our book Vessels of Fire (highly recommended), you cannot help but be in awe of how the truth of the original gospel, with revelation of Torah and Jewish Roots, is transforming their hearts, lives, and behavior. Among them are former murderers and rapists, criminals of the worst kind, and yet now forgiven and washed children of the God of Israel. Among them are men and women, young and old, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Wiccans, and whatnot. All of them are convicts. Some of them are in solitary cells and even on death row awaiting execution. Most of them were raised as some sort of Christian (except most of the Jews among them). But their Christianity did not keep them from crime and prison.
“That is what some of you were—but you were washed, you were made holy, you were set right in the name of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah and by the Ruach of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 TLV
The discovery of the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua, in all His glory, and the love of Israel are doing more than any religion can do through our GRM Bible School, the many courses, books, music, videos, and Shabbat letters that we make available for free through a special online closed prison system. They are being fed excellent spiritual food, and they are growing and multiplying. Our small prison team rotates visits to the many prison facilities several times a month. Our prison admin, mainly volunteers from many nations, are tirelessly working to cater to their homework and email requests for prayer, often heartbreaking requests.
For everything there is a season and a time for every activity under heaven.Ecclesiastes 3:1 TLV
Seasons come and seasons go; pharaohs of this world come and go, but His Kingdom is forever. Even Yeshua and his parents needed to be banished to Egypt, waiting patiently for the season of King Herodes, who wanted Him dead, to pass.
But when Herod died, behold, an angel of Adonai appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ‘Get up! Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are dead.Matthew 2:19-20 TLV
We wonder sometimes why Yah does not simply remove evil rulers and evil taskmasters right away. Why does He allow His People to suffer? Why did He allow Israel to be enslaved for 430 years before He heard their cry and remembered His covenant?
Now it came about over the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. Bnei-Yisrael groaned because of their slavery. They cried out, and their cry from slavery went up to God. God heard their sobbing and remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God saw Bnei-Yisrael, and He was concerned about them.Exodus 2:23-25 TLV
Were they not sobbing before? Did Yah not see their oppression and slavery that went on for hundreds of years? It is hard for our human minds to realize that He has a Master Plan and He has a timing for everything, and it does not match our human timing expectations.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Moreover, He has set eternity in their heart—yet without the possibility that humankind can ever discover the work that God has done from the beginning to the end.Ecclesiastes 3:11 TLV
Patience is a very important virtue. In Hebrew, SAVLANUT means to suffer long and endure, moving forward in our faith and hoping for the best to come. SAVLANUT is not passivity or “playing dead.” It is a very active force that propels us to keep doing what is right against all odds without losing hope. Yah will make everything right and beautiful in its time. He is taking everyone’s soul into consideration, even the souls of cruel taskmasters. Eternity is an endless, long time, and hell, whether you believe it or not, exists and is unbearably hot. He gives the opportunity to everyone, even to some of those we consider evil, dark, and cruel. He knocks on the door of their hearts, also.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some consider slowness. Rather, He is being patient toward you, not wanting anyone to perish, but for all to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 TLV
So, what should we do during evil times or times of affliction? We need to become professional in SAVLANUT. We fix our eyes on His Heavenly Kingdom, so with every step we take, we bring that Marvelous Kingdom, His Love, His Hope, His Power, His Wisdom, His Joy, His Justice (not our version, which most often is vengeance) closer to all those on earth around us.
“You also be patient. Strengthen your hearts because the coming of the Lord is near.” Jacob (James) 5:8 TLV
There is no way around it; difficult times will come and go, and evil rulers will come and go. We need to learn to rejoice, to endure, and to pray. These are weapons of warfare that are very effective in every circumstance. Joy, hope, endurance, and prayer are more powerful than any missiles the enemy sends our way.
“rejoicing in hope, enduring in distress, persisting in prayer,” Romans 12:12 TLV
Yah is much more interested in forging a mature and perfect character in us than we know. He wants us to trust Him in all circumstances. He says we should leave judgment and vengeance to Him.
“Never take your own revenge, loved ones, but give room for God’s wrath—for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,’ says Adonai.” Romans 12:19 TLV
In the 21st century, many people get bitter with God because He does not make them happy and give them wealth, peace, and security all the time. Why does He send trouble and adversity their way, they ask? Haven’t we suffered enough? Beloveds, our faith will be tested again and again as long as we are on earth. That test in times of tribulation is like a cross that kills us, but if we submit to Him during evil times, we shall come out of trials shining for His glory!
Knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” Jacob (James) 1:3-4 TLV
Perfect and complete, lacking nothing. That is true Shalom, true well-being. It is the test that is a stepping stone for the fulfillment of His Covenant. Had the people of Israel not been oppressed and enslaved to the point of groaning, Israel would have never left Egypt and possessed the Promised Land. It is that test that led to the testimony of who Israel is. It is the test you are going through that will help forge you into the next level of Prophetic Fulfillment.
“For our trouble, light and momentary, is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, as we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 TLV
