Torah Portion ACHAREI MOT – KEDOSHIM – Vayikra (Leviticus) 16:1-20:27 Haftarah: Amos 9:7-15
He remembers His covenant forever—the word He commanded for a thousand generations— which He made with Abraham, and swore to Isaac, and confirmed to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying, “To you I give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance.” Psalms 105:8-11
Shabbat shalom, dearly beloved!
There is no other name that provokes more emotion than the name of Israel: in some, it’s love, and in some, irrational hatred. But why is this? What is it about Israel that makes it the center of world attention, both positive and negative?
Israel, The Holy Triunity:
- The God of Israel
- The People of Israel
- The Land of Israel
One obedient man by the name of Abram was made into a nation by the God who created the Heavens and the Earth. This God has many names—among others, He is called the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and also the God of Israel.
The grandson of Abraham was named Yaakov (Jacob), and, after an intense struggle with the Angel of God, he was renamed ISRAEL, which means “the prince of God.” It is to Abraham and his descendants (his son Isaac and grandson Jacob) that God promised a land called Canaan, which was later renamed Israel. Because of this historical promise, the land was named the Land of Israel or the Land belonging to Israel (Jacob), the grandson of Abraham. Jacob-Israel fathered 12 sons that were termed the 12 tribes of Israel, with one of the tribes called to bring salvation and redemption to the whole world. This is the tribe of Judah, from which the terms “Jew” or “Jewish” derive.
The King of the Jews would be born to the royal house of the Tribe of Judah, the House of David. This king, though born of the womb of a Jewish young woman named Miriam, was born in a miraculous way of her virgin womb. And, though being the Second Adam, he was called the Son of God as prophesied by the Israelite prophets of old. Whoever would accept this Jewish King and surrender to Him would receive forgiveness of sins and salvation, and whoever would reject Him would die in their sins and be lost for all eternity. This Israelite Jewish King, termed Messiah or the Anointed One, was named by His Father, the God of Israel.
YESHUA
Meaning SALVATION.
Thus, the Holy Triunity was born.
The God that created Heaven and Earth—Elohim, El Shadai, YHVH, the Great I Am—became the God of Israel. The People that He created to be a blessing and a light to all the nations were now called The People of Israel. And the land granted by the Almighty to His People was now called the Land of Israel.
Any separation between these three prophetic components would impact the world adversely.
This Holy Triunity will be the Prophetic Wheel that will make the world go round.
The God of Israel made a key promise to Abraham. This Key of Abraham serves as a protection to His People, Israel, as well as being a rudder for the right relationship of the gentile nations with Israel, extending all the way to the Jewish People of today.
And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 12:3 NASB
Light to the nations
The way that Israel was to be a light unto the nations is by instructing the nations on the holy principles of morality and worship given to her as a marriage covenant. This is called the Torah or INSTRUCTION. The foundation of this Torah would be TEN WORDS that became like a Heavenly Constitution for any moral, godly and successful society.
Also, Divinely Appointed Feasts were given as a frame of Holy Worship, starting with the Shabbat Day (the Day of Rest) established since creation.
These feasts would be Holy Convocations, sweet dates with the Creator, and would be celebrated forever—even by non-Jews that adhere to the worship of the God of Israel and His Jewish Son, Yeshua, the Savior of the world.
Also the foreigners who join themselves to YHVH, to attend to His service and to love the name of YHVH, to be His servants, every one who keeps the Sabbath so as not to profane it, And holds firmly to My covenant; even those I will bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Isaiah 56:6-7
Then all the survivors from all the nations that attacked Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Adonai-Tzva’ot, and to celebrate Sukkot. Zechariah 14:16 TLV
Grafted in
When Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, was sent to give His life on the altar for the salvation and redemption of both Jews and Gentiles, He also became the Torah in human form or the Living Torah. All the Word of His Father, as previously given to the People of Israel, became flesh and dwelt among us.
Gentiles are invited to partake of the New Covenant as given to the People of Israel. There is no New Covenant made with any Gentile Nation, as the God of Israel chose His People to bring forth salvation and redemption to the world.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“I will put My Torah within them. Yes, I will write it on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be My people. No longer will each teach his neighbor or each his brother, saying, “Know Adonai,” for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest.” It is a declaration of Adonai. “For I will forgive their iniquity, their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:33-34
They are invited to partake of the rich root of the Olive Tree (Romans 11), which represents the nation of Israel, with all the righteous instructions of holy lifestyle, morality, and holy worship.
However, they were warned not to become arrogant by usurping the place of God’s Chosen People. Or by disdaining them by lingering to recognize their own Messiah.
But if some of the branches were broken off and you—being a wild olive—were grafted in among them and became a partaker of the root of the olive tree with its richness, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who support the root but the root supports you. Romans 11:17-18
Blindness in part (not in full) came upon them so that salvation, Yeshua, could go to the nations. The ultimate purpose was to make them JEALOUS to have their Messiah back.
However, history tells us that Gentiles did become arrogant by establishing a religious system that humiliated and persecuted Jews, all the way to extermination in the Romanized name of their Messiah, Jesus Christ. This is a religious system divorced from the Jewish Messiah, His Torah instructions, His Holy convocations and Feasts, attempting to usurp the place of His chosen people, Israel. This has caused untold woes and destruction to the Jewish People throughout 1600 years. It has also brought endless curses to individuals, churches, families, and nations that have lifted up their hands against His People. This has not provoked Israel to jealousy; so then the heart’s desire of the Apostle Paul has gone largely unfulfilled.
“For thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, He has sent me after glory to the nations that plundered you—because whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye”—Zech. 2:12 TLV
