Will Hardship Stop You?
Torah Portion VAETCHANAN – Devarim (Deuteronomy) 3:23-7:11 Haftarah: Isaiah 40:1-26

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1

Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!

We are living in a generation of comfort, especially in the so-called “enlightened” or “Western Civilization” countries. Our children are accustomed from a young age to getting away with their own will and whims. If people are a bit depressed or can’t sleep, they are encouraged by doctors to take pills, not to seek God, not to repent, but rather to take pills. People are encouraged by the media to seek what’s best for themselves—not the best for the community or God, but for the selfish lifestyle they desire.

But realize this: that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, and haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. 2 Timothy 3:1-4

The emotional endurance of this generation is so low that people have nervous breakdowns right and left. Hardship and trials are regarded as enemies to get rid of rather than treated as something that can teach us and can strengthen our characters. Principles are upside down; what used to be good and desirable in the past (such as holiness, righteousness, integrity, modesty, faithfulness, loyalty, etc.) have become “antiquated.” We are in the “Now Generation,” one where no patience is needed for anything. Many children suffer from hyperactive attention deficit disorder.

For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, and without self-control. 2 Timothy 3:2-3

Will Hardship Stop You?

Patience and long-suffering are outdated in this generation that seeks to “feel good” all the time, even if it means taking drugs or making others miserable. Everyone seems to be doing everything they can to “feel good.” What is the restlessness, the hyperactivity, the impatience, and the selfishness doing to this generation? It is destroying it altogether; the foundations are broken and the house is sinking.

But realize this: that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money… 2 Timothy 3:1

What we see as Global Warming, with its increasing number of earthquakes and tsunamis, is nothing but a Global Warning that earth’s foundations are shaking. What I find the most remarkable is that, between one earthquake or tsunami and another, life seems to go on as if nothing really happened. Meanwhile, there are millions of displaced, homeless people roaming around many countries now, victims of this or another disaster.

But realize this: that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1

The rate of suicide keeps going higher and higher, as is prostitution, homosexuality, drug abuse, child molestation, and violence—and yet people at large are seeking to be entertained. The Spirit of Rome is upon us. The Great Roman Empire corroded from within because of the selfish, self-centered, “ME” lifestyle! And while Rome was sinking, the emperors chose to appease the masses with entertainment in Coliseums and big stadiums. They kept the masses sedated through vile entertainment. Just like today, the masses are sedated with the vilest forms of entertainment that come through their TV and computer screens. Every day and night they are pouring forth vileness, lewdness, cussing, cursing, pornography, lying, cheating, violence, witchcraft, deception, and on and on…

For as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Matthew 24:38, 39

Will Hardship Stop You?

I see the signs of judgment all over the earth, and the Church at large is asleep on the placebo of “entertainment,” both from TV and the Internet and also in their “church services.” People go to be entertained on Sunday and even on Shabbat, but most are not confronted with issues such as sin and obedience, repentance, or holiness.

Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. Matthew 24:12, 13

I have noticed that when someone starts obeying Yah’s (God’s) call, there is hardship. There is warfare, as Satan does not like to lose easily. But this generation is ill-prepared for it, and many at the first sign of hardship, discomfort, or persecution run away like scared mice from God’s call.

Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted. 2 Timothy 3:12

Beloved, hardship is normal on the road to Eternity. We’d better become friends with and acquainted with it—and learn how to overcome it and how to grow character from it. What is really needed in all of our lives in this generation is a healthy dosage of the fear of Yah (God)! The spirit of humanism and of entertainment has most people so poisoned and gagging in unbelief that the only thing we can expect are some more shakings to shake us all on this earth out of the deep sleep of sin and convenience.

For thus says YHVH T’zevaot, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also, and the dry land.’ Haggai 2:6 STB

Immorality has become the norm in every way, through every screen. Who is sighing inside about this state of affairs? We are like the frog that got boiled slowly and did not notice it. We have grown accustomed to filth all around us (in the music, in the road signs, on the TV, in the main newspapers, on billboards, etc.), and, as a result, no one sighs or falls prostrate before the Most High. Lord, have mercy! He cannot fill us with His Glory until He shakes us to separate us from all filth and complacency. We want revival, but revival is costly, very costly, and it always comes through repentance—and repentance is preceded by shaking.

For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God, and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And if it is with difficulty that the righteous are saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner? Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right. 1 Peter 4:17-19

Will Hardship Stop You?

Are you suffering hardship on the road to obedience? Keep on doing what is right in His eyes and persevere in His call. Resist the temptation to quit, to run away, or to ease your circumstances through compromise. It is high time that we all became true soldiers! He is calling us to shed all civilian clothes and get dressed for war.

Beloved, this is the Word of YHVH for us all.

Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Messiah Yeshua. 2 Timothy 2:3

In the days to come more and more shakings are prepared; only those that have befriended hardship will be able to stand and shine because of their obedience to the Most High God. No fads, no great choirs, bands, hi-tech props, or anything that man can devise will help, only “good old character” that displays the fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Messiah Yeshua have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24

Yeshua has posted a “Wanted” ad saying, “Highly Wanted: people full of faith, faithfulness, perseverance, obedience, humility, and integrity—for a high-risk position. Any takers?” Those who answer the call to shine in the midst of the darkness of this age will be eternally rewarded, though in the temporal they will suffer much hardship.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10, 11

Will Hardship Stop You?

Have you encountered hardship on your way to obedience? What was your reaction? Escape the call—adjust the call (to something more “palatable”) or stay with the call, come what may?

In my experience, most people escape the call or religiously “adjust” it to their circumstances and “excuse” themselves. Very few are truly obedient to the end, come what may—and it is only those who will be effective in preparing this lost generation for the Return of Messiah. The other ones will go into obscurity and will drift away into the arms of satan and eternal destruction.

So because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Revelation 3:16

The Grace of the Lord will carry us through all hardship IF we dare believe Him, trust Him, and keep on obeying Him, in spite of all challenges!

I have been crucified with Messiah, and it is no longer I who live, but Messiah lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20

Death to the self-centered life is True Life in Messiah. Crucify your unbelief; trust Him and obey Him all the way! You are needed in His Army!

    Testimonies from the students:

I was second in command for a nationwide gang, but with the help of YHVH and GRM Bible School, I have begun to denounce that, after 21 years of membership. The enemy has been attacking me because of it. He knows he is losing a warrior, but I fight a different war for a different Master now. – J.M.

I used to be confused and uncomfortable because I didn’t know what to believe. There are so many different doctrines, all going against each other and teaching different things. I now understand the Gospel better and know my faith’s roots. – E.P

I have been wrong all my life, but now I understand what God wants from me! – R.D.
